How do shield resistances work?

On normal armor, resistances to status effects such as fire reduce the chances of said status from being inflicted, and also (if I'm not mistaken) reduce the damage of the effect.
So... What do status resistances do on shields? You can't get inflicted with a status if you're shielding, and if you get inflicted otherwise, raising your shield does nothing to circumvent the status effect.

Yes. All status effects (even ones like poison) are converted to a damage number, and are dealt to your shield's health. Shield status resistances reduce the amount of damage done, allowing the shield to last longer when struck by an attack that deals that status. (And can also last much longer in status traps)

Shield Resistance is separated into two conditions
One for Damage resistance, one for status resistance
Each shield has a health bar, the longer it is, the greater the health of the shield
Damage resistance splits into 4 different types, namely Normal, Elemental, Piercing and Shadow
Having a longer bar of a specific type of resistance will lead to the shield receiving less damage from the type of damage. However, if there is no resistance, the shield will take the actual damage from the monster.
Status Resistance splits into Posion, Fire, Shock, Stun, Curse and Freeze
Same as how damage resistance works, it receives less damage when a specific type of status is inflicted on the shield. If there is no resistance, it receives actual damage. However, take note that some shields/armor have negative status resistance, which leads to the shield taking more damage than actually intended

It's easier to check with wisps, since all they do is a status.

I'm pretty sure this question has been asked and answered dozens of times.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you for clearing that up :D
Now I can haz sleep
Wiki doesn't seem to show that though I'm either not reading it right/to lazy to read the whole page.

If I was able to find the information on the wiki, I would have never have started this thread.
Thank you everyone for answering my question though.

Great. I'm glad that you tried the wiki first. Too bad you didn't stumble upon the Shieldbearer Guide, where all of this is explained.
It seems that the wiki article "Shield" has been damaged for a couple of weeks. Now it's fixed, and I've added a brief synopsis of how shields work, so that this information is easier to find. Cheers.
Well, shock is completely negated in terms of damage by your shield, so far I've seen.
Fire I think is reduced.
I'm not sure, but I think the shield is resistant to the damage inflicted by the status, as well as any attack that hits you bearing that status, like a Fireball will be resisted better by a shield with Fire defense than a shield with no defense.
Also a shock resist shield should take less damage from the shock effect than a normal shield would.
I THINK.
