I think I've seen this on Guild Wars:

when a player says WTS or WTB the message is automatically added to a table where each player have 1 message.

You can sort messages by player name, so they won't be popping every second and you can read calmly.

You can type words on a filter box and it would narrow the table to find what you want; this kind of filter is in the game already.
