Guild Storage Revision

I had an idea today after a long time member of our guild decided to clear out the guild storage and leave. I think there could be more protection for guild member/veteran/officer storage. The protection I propose if that for every item you take out you would need to put another item in. Of course you could still put items in without needing to take an item out but with this protection in place I think it would simply put a stop to the few bad apples out there just looking to clear out guild storages.

I use our storage to help our members craft better gear, whoever takes from it contributes replacement materials, and the thought that someone could ruin it for everyone else like what has happened to us makes me a bit mad.

Luckily thanks to Spiral Knight's great GM team the stolen items were restored to our guild storage but I imagine, if this is happening to other guilds too, that this could take up much of a GM's valuable time and with a simple protection in place such as this, this could be avoided and Spiral Knight's guild masters could rejoice safe in the knowledge that the storage can't be wiped out.

I think it'd be nice if this got implemented. What do you guys think?

*replaces everything with ecto drops*
What a great system!

Something similar recently happened to my guild.

I can see what you're getting at, but what's to stop them from putting in one ecto drop for each item they take out?

Restrict trade-ins to the same item type.

What's to stop them from putting in 1* items while pulling out high level, possibly UVed items?

Restrict trade-ins to the same star rating.

Well then you can't really use storage to help out newer members.

What if they can't afford the item at the moment but wholly intend to return an item?

The point is, it is really hard to set restrictions that really stop the looting problem without making the guild storage all but useless. To be honest, I think people should just be careful who they invite, and report the few who actually do steal from the guilds.

Edit: Darn, I got ninja'd.

I see what you are saying but

I see what you are saying but do you really think someone would go through the trouble of swapping an ecto drop for every item in storage? I mean... we had 1000s of items in there. You might get the odd person going this far but I think it would at the very least stop oppertunists. Plus I only keep 3* and under in the members storage anyway. Anything higher is kept in veteran storage and that rank is only given if you have been in the guild forever and are trustworthy. I mean any form of protection would be better than not having any at all?

New super-shiny storage

New super-shiny storage protection system: make trust a requirement to receive member rank.

Hmmmmm

Restrict the amount of mats that can be taken out per day.

@Troupe

I'm in combat's guild, and we did that on a regular basis. The person who stole was fairly well known. No one in the guild really knows what possessed them to take everything and suddenly leave.

@Name

I agree. Maybe limiting it to 20 per each type of mat per day would help. That way you can still get a decent amount for crafting, and not take everything. Obviously, allowing higher ranks to circumvent this limit when necessary would also probably be a good feature.

From a player point of view.

From a player point of view. Yes this should be implemented

From a technician point of view... God do you know how hard it is to make? (first read the link below)

Second, wonder yourself... Is it really worth the time?

...

...

I think not

Simply ask the guild to file a report for scamming on him and ask the Guild Master to file a report (using other and explaining what happened)

Hyperion gave us our mats back

And the guy got a perma ban

@ troupe: Use the officer storage? I know I can trust my Officer and Guild Master, I don't trust member nor Veteran as it is easy to get in our guild (member = 1 week in guild and Vet = JK solo + vana interview to see how good/bad they are, Off = vets + being active and helping other and be a trusty pal)

"I see what you are saying but do you really think someone would go through the trouble of swapping an ecto drop for every item in storage?"

You'd be surprised how far people can go for 'free' stuff.

The way my guild manages it:

1) Recruit members who can prove themselves to be at least semi-competent in terms of Ethic and Communication.
2) Rank-up requirements include trust of the player. If we don't trust them very far, we don't promote them.
3) Don't put anything you aren't willing to lose in the lower storages. If someone needs to retrieve it, temporarily promote them or get it from there yourself to give to them.

It isn't really necessary. But if you guys manage to come up with something that doesn't cripple honest users, be my guest.
