I don't have a youtube account, and am too long-winded for that anyway. ;P
Hiya, here's the currently yellow guy you ran past making the video. (Mickmane)
First impression: Are you trying to repel people from trying to make money? ;P I have met enough new players and tried to give them some help with ah, to know that this might be more confusing than helpful.
"Knowledge base" on prices is a huge thing to aquire, not something gleaned in a day.
2nd. Accessories and UV for rich players; you have to be rich to get into the market in the first place. A new player who gets lucky and crafts something expensive needs a knowledgeable friend to not be ripped off by the first random not-so-friendly player they meet.
3rd. Don't sort by end time, that's the default. When I was new, I kept thinking; "sorting by buy price would be neat". Took me months to actually find that. And selling stuff on AH myself, I often find that people hit buy on my more expensive item, simply because it was at the top of the sorted-by-end-time list.
Also, to get an idea on prices, sort by buy price, see what times there are. If there are many medium and short ones, that price isn't enticing enough to hit "buy now". If there are only long and very long times, a lot of people hit "buy now".
4th. Something useful for the video watchers looking for info, but tedious to do to get money: To start off, go to materials. Go through all of them (by alphabet or stars, type in "beast", then "blast p",...), sort the list by buy price, put up the materials you have (keep a minimum for your own crafting[*]), 1 at a time at first to test, pricing them at a very tempting bid price (like what an npc would give you[#]), and a buy price that's a bit lower than the current cheapest buy price. Pick "very long time". When/if that sells, put on the next one.
The trick here is, if you put in a row of 10x1 material at the same price, the next guy who puts on stuff will see that and undercut you. If they see only 1 item, they might not worry much about your price and think it'll be gone soon.
Get an idea for whereabouts the prices shift. (I recommend making a list in a file with notepad or something.)
Don't sell your materials to random strangers yelling to buy them. They give you less than you can get on AH, and probably sell them there anyway.
From there, find your own niche market to sell items that you can easily get at. As Linkalee said, boss recipes are neat. 3* sell best. (Least risk; they are only 4kcr each. Most profit; they might get you several times the Basil price.) Don't do 4* boss recipes, they can be gotten in tier 2 AND tier 3, thus everyone buys them and you will have trouble getting rid of them. If in doubt, ask a friend to check, or take an alt to Auction House and check the recipe you have an eye on to sell, while you yourself are still at Basil. Sort by buy price, look at how many there are, what the cheapest recipe cost, and keep the AH fee of 10% in mind.
[*] To craft something from 2* to 5*, you'd need 50 Shards (of whichever colour), around 15 1*, 12 2*, 6 3*, 3 4* and 1 5* materials (of whichever type your item needs). So keep that much for your own needs.
[#] Any NPC that takes crowns as payment gives you 1cr for shards and 1* materials, 5cr for 2*, 10cr for 3*, 25cr for 4* and 50cr for 5* materials each. With most stuff, that's way less than you get on AH. (This information is on the wiki! Make the wiki your best friend, there's a world of useful information there!)
Besides that...
I agree with definitely putting in a buy price. Lots of people are impatient and want it NAO, and are willing to pay a little more. Also, when they hit "buy now" no one can outbid them anymore.
Getting something expensive and then waiting for months may not be the best way for a new player to get cash fast. ;P
Gimme those Prisma Valk Wings! ;P Also, the Snowfall Aura.
Seriously, a friend of me is looking for a Surge Hood. Got one?
Hope this helps someone. :)
