Hello there Treasure Vault!

For those who weren't around last Christmas or may have missed it, some of us in The Jempire are creating a fan-game for Spiral Knights called "Jempire Story". The game is a 16-bit Spiral Knights fan RPG, and celebrates SK with a custom storyline, special song remixes, and a number of familiar faces from across the Spiral Knights community.

The game will be free upon release, and will also be focused on raising funds for the charity Child's Play.

As we plan to finish the game soon, we'd like to spotlight some of the creative works of artists across the SK community by including them within the game. Likewise, we'd gladly welcome any volunteers who may have experience with either sprite art or general fan art, who would like to contribute original work to the game! (In particular, we need sprite artists + cutscene artists the most.)

Any player in the SK Community is welcome to submit a contribution or apply to help with the game, regardless of your guild affiliation.

But before that, we imagine most of you would probably like to see it! So, on to the demo:

We released the demo on Christmas last year, and you can download it here:

The game uses a modified RPGMaker engine, and the final game will feature fully original face art for each character, as well as a number of unique sprites. We've already come a long way from this old demo, and we look forward to showing you guys screenshots of our progress as we get closer to launch.

The game begins with you helping a certain pipe-smoking Jelly named Nick, and from there, you'll have a huge array of side quests, secrets, and hidden items to find. The players you have in your party will also change how cut-scenes play out, allowing you to get to know the people in your team. In the full game, you'll be able to enter your Guild Hall and fully customize your team at any time between missions.

We're lucky to have three very talented musicians working on our soundtrack. SK player Bacon-Strip plays guitar, Kevin Villeco handles much of the mastering (and creates some amazing dubstep tracks), and Pete Lepley lends a fresh chiptune feel with his music. How you can get involved
-----------------------------

The most pressing thing we need at the moment are Sprite Artists and cut-scene artists. A little more info on what we'd need:

1. Sprite Artists - Able to create custom sprites with a few frames of animation. (These will all be based on SK designs.)
2. Cut-scene artists - Able to create single or multi-panel pieces that help us tell the story without the need for words. Styles can vary, though we'll want to maintain a certain level of consistency.

If you'd like to help, please send me a mail (IGN is same as my forum name) or to Espira, who is handling a lot of our art for the game. (If possible, please mail us both!)

How to add your art to the game

We'll be talking more about this as we get a little closer to being finished with the game. The concept right now is to add an unlockable gallery within the game, which populates with art from the SK community as you progress through the game / find it within dungeons. Think of it as a time capsule for all the cool stuff that you guys have created over the years, immortalized in game form. :)

Hi Tevokkia - We've seen your work in the past, and we think you'd be a great addition to the team. :) I'll send you a mail.

Hexslash - It's the latest version of the software, with a few modifications plugged in that change how the game works. The mods improve the game by allowing features that aren't available with the vanilla version. (For example, allowing text "Tips" on-screen while you're walking around the Advanced Training Hall.)

Also, a big welcome to Lizzi from the guild Rogue, who has officially joined the team today to contribute both Sprite Art and some Character Art. Good to have you aboard, Lizzi!

Hehe, RPG Maker... I believe that might've been where I started my gamedev journey back when I was maybe 10. Hadn't really been able to find any details on the game at jeMgaming.net earlier but 'tis fun to see. Woo, go Jampire

Once more, unto the breach

On goes the game, and down goes our sleep!

We've recently made some nice improvements to the game lately that we're happy to mention now:

- This week we were able to completely overhaul the Haven fountain, which is now much more accurate to the SK counterpart, and is now notably more shiny.

- GM Cronus will soon look a whole lot more like GM Cronus. We might even make him purple.

- We have room for a few player cameos in some of our Chapter 2 quests. Want to show up? Let us know your knight's name on this thread and your general colors, and we'll create a cameo NPC villager based on you! (Note: Spaces are limited, but we'll try to include as many players as we can.)

As of tonight, you're officially part of the game. Look for yourself in the Chapter 2 quest "The Great Scammer Hunt", over in the Bazaar. Your NPC will have some distinctly aquamarine hair. :)

For those interested in the what was changed in the latest version... :

I.) New items Added:
- Yucky Vegetables
- Epic Chocolate Bar
- Sonic Speed drink
- Awkward Lobster

II.) Title Screen music (slightly) adjusted

III.) Quest Updates:
- Chikamatsu's First Quest Updated (More enemies, dialogue, and items)
- Smashgear's First Quest Updated (Chests now have items)
- Huntr's Second Quest Updated (New battles, dialogue, and items added)

IV.) Key Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a bug that would sometimes allow for a party member to be added twice in the Guild Hall.
- Fixed a bug that removed Rubius when entering The Core. (Leaving the party with only 3 players.)
- Fixed a bug that would allow you to play Huntr's second quest repeatedly in Chapter 2 until you reached Chapter 3.
- Fixed a slight graphical bug where the Herex character art was appearing too high up.
- Fixed a bug regarding Text in the Advanced Training Hall. (This text is now given via an NPC.)

Great to see a lot of progress in the game as well as interesting updates (Well, I saw the oldest update and it's indeed lots of updates).
Looking forward to see more progress and updates soon.
(Would be best if it's written in Java or C++ to make it more complex and flexible with the updates. However, it appears to be too late now with this huge progress but translating it to another language wouldn't be a bad idea either. ^^)
Hope you guys can find sprite artists soon.

P.S. If I wasn't this busy with college and stuffs, I would be helping you guys (well, again. lol If you're still interested).
