Darkness...
Shattered...it...me...
Medals...elements...
Help...secret...to all...

Upon recieving this criptic message, Pivot readies to hunt for the medals, being careful not to tell anyone of the expedition.

Title Screen (WIP. Will make soon)

Using Anura (The Frogatto and Friends engine), I intend to (once again) attempting to launch a fan game. I think I've learned from my past blunders, and am ready to begin proper. (If I fail this time, I'll make a pixel art of my knight eating his Groundbreaker Helmet.)

The game will be called "Elemedals", after the key items. (Yes, I smashed "Elemental" and "Medal" together.) This game is intended to be a precurser to Cradlebound, which would be too complex to do by myself. Elemedals will be a more modest game, and I'll hopefully be able to make it mostly myself.

Elemedals will be a sidescroling game based almost entirely on the Arcade, and I won't add any pre-built missions. (Although there will be pre-built levels.) If I had a demo to show you, I'd show you it. Since I don't right now...

Anywho, if anyone wants to read more, instead of posting endless walls of text, I'm going to link you to this* and then this. I have intentionally left info out to keep it simple and to the point. (Although further questions will get answered.)

*There is a slight typo in that. The name gets changed if I continue on to the stretch goal, not when the slack goal is finished.

My goal is to have a demo made by January 1st. (Though this demo would probably be very very limited.) I'm using Valve Time, mind you.

Coming up: I'll get some designs for Pivot ready soon.

Wait a sec. . .

If it's a 2D scroller the way I think it'll be, then you should be able to move/aim backwards.

How would I do that, control wise?

Right now, the line up is as follows: (These would be default controls)

Move: Left/Right arrows
Look up: Up arrow
Block: Down arrow (?)
Jump: X
Dash: C (Or double tap left/right)
Attack: Z
Switch: Shift, Alt, or Spacebar

Should there br extra controls mapped to looking left and right? (Actually, that's not a bad idea. Then there could be diagonal shooting...but yuck then I'd have to sprite shooting diagonally.)

EDIT: BTW, I'm going to get to spriting him tonight or this weekend, whenever I have time for it.

EDIT2: Right now, I've found that not only is the Anura engine I was using technically not free (or, atleast the game that came with it.), but I was also using the unstable version. Unfortunatly that means I've still got to get Anura to compile. It's a huge pain because Boost 1.5 isn't on this version of Debian, so I have to compile it myself, which seems impossible. I promise to figure out a way to make the game easily distributable despite this, but it also means I cannot work on the game as soon as I hoped. (BIG SAD FACE D:) Atleast I can still do sprites, but still....

Updates:

The basic sprite for Pivot is nearly done! To accomidate for its low res, I've had to make some tweaks to the original design. I'll post it soon, and then get to animating. (This thing fits in a 32x32 boundary. Certain movements won't fit this, but the standing still sprite does.)

Character design:

Name: Joint
Race: I-Class Sprite
"Don't you DARE hurt the Mewkat!"

History: Joint is a sprite of the Intel class, who specializes in scanning, hacking, and aid in decision. Joint had been designed by Pivot. (Along with many other engineers, as Pivot has no technical skill.) In the crash, Joint had been separated from the rest of the knights. Due to being in the I-Class, rather than evolving physically, Joint had absored the surrounding feelings and emotions, giving him a unique personality. He was later recovered by the Spiral Knights. Before Pivot lost his squad, Joint was an essential asset to the team, lending his skills in hacking, analyzing, strategizing, and cracking the occasional joke.

Bio and Description: Joint helps Pivot throughout the game by providing hints and strategies. He can also analyze the level ahead and warn the player of what to expect. (Though in both of these things, he may be inacurate.) If Joint gets suficiently bored, he might say a joke or two. When Pivot reaches a computer, Joint can upload Pivot's memories, saving the game.

Joint has a bizare love for Mewkats, Impostocubes, and Shufflebots. If the player has the "audacity" to destroy any of these things, Joint will either rage your ear off or stop talking to you for a while.

NOTES: In most cases, the player can still move while Joint talks. This could be destracting for some, so the player will be able to ask Joint to be quiet unless talked to. He will usually comply unless he has something important to say.

Developer comment: I want to have a interactive sprite to bring out Pivot's personality. Without someone to talk to, Pivot would probably seem like a mute. At the same time, I don't want Joint to feel like an annoying character, nor do I want to give away surprises. (Though Joint will inevitibly do this, I will also throw in a touch of randomness, so he will say the wrong thing sometimes.)
