SK Won't Open Anymore

I recently tried open SK again after having not played for months. The screen flashes black a few times -asthough attempting to switch to the game screen- and the returns to the desktop where nothing happens afterwards. However, java still appears to be running in task manager, and steam tells me that "the app is still running" unless i shut down that java program.
I'm assuming this is because i'm running on windows 8.1, because it USED to work but no longer does. any help?
p.s. I've already tried re-installing multiple times >.>

The most common cause of this is that during a large Windows Update (say 8 to 8.1) your existing graphics driver was marked as not fully compatible and Windows started using its less functional built in version. The result is a game crash or hang on startup when it fails to properly start up the 3D graphics.

Thankfully this can usually be fixed by downloading and installing the most recent version of your graphics driver from your graphics card manufacturer. You can find the name and manufacturer of your graphics card by doing the following:

  1. Press the Windows Key + R hotkey to open Run
  2. Type in "dxdiag" and hit 'OK'.
  3. In the second tab ('Display'), you will find the 'Name' which is your video card's model and 'Manufacturer'

Some common manufacturer support and download sites are:
NVidia
ATI/AMD
Intel

Same problem

I'm getting the exact same problem, but I'm running the Steam version on Mac OSX Mavericks. I'm not sure if I can update my video drivers. Any advice?

Can you please start a new thread? Though the appearance may be the same the actual problem is usually different on Macs. In that thread please post any troubleshooting steps you've already taken and the contents of your projectx and launcher log files. These log files can be found at ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Spiral Knights/. You may have to navigate there using the Go To Folder function in Finder (⌘ + Shift + G).
