Problem: A majority of the missions, while featuring clockwork levels, are rarely re-played after initially completing them to progress through the rank/stories. Many players who have completed all of the missions find themselves repeating boss missions for higher payout/tokens. This is a shame because it is clear the amount of effort Three Rings puts into the mission story as a whole, and to see a mission played only once and then forgotten is a waste of work on their part.
This grind for optimal effort for reward creates a stale gameplay environment, because there is nothing that encourages us to replay non-boss missions.
Lack of true endgame content beyond repeating boss missions is a common complaint by players, and there is little to encourage players to repeat other missions.
Solution: Add a "Challenge Mode" for each mission, which specifies a criteria that must be achieved in order to succeed the mission.
Challenge mode would be available to Vanguards only. It would prevent alt-creation to play challenge modes just to reap high reward prizes repeatedly.
If the challenge is difficult enough with an appropriate reward, players will naturally be drawn towards completing the challenge.
With a good enough mission payout (Radiant Fire Crystals? Orbs? Sparks? Crown?) and disable replayability for some time (Weekly?), it would create a "pseudo endgame" environment which encourages players to equally appreciate all of the available missions offered by the game and not just the boss missions, while still rewarding them appropriately for the time and effort spent meeting the challenge and also creating a more interesting playing environment.
Examples of such rules:
- Mission timer: beat the mission within a given time
- Force players to use a specific loadout / set of weapons (overriding the players actual choices in weapons/weapon slots).
- Specific weapon type only (For example, Bomb Only - Royal Jelly Palace)
- No damage taken to complete mission
- No shield equipped
Of course each mission would be given a different challenge, and ideally the challenges offered by the missions would rotate weekly (weapon specific missions would be quite interesting to see rotate).
Comments? Would such a feature breathe life back into replaying older missions as "endgame content"?
