Ok so i had a discussion with my guild about using a dread venom striker on vana's mask after getting a cutter with asi medium. I am thinking that if i use my maskeraiths attack speed and damage bonus then charging the sword will do more damage than mask boost and blitz. I am wondering however if i should just attack him normally after the boost incase the charge is too long. So what do you guys think?
DVS on vana's mask
No. Dvs is not effective on vana mask. Its safer than blitz beacause of msd but Gunner Update will change it.
Shouldn't DVS be the most effective thing that isn't an autogun? A large number of normal hits (it's basically a split normal+normal weapon when it comes down to it) against an enemy that is weak to normal sounds like it would be effective. I haven't tried bringing DVS to FSC in quite some time. I just bring my comfy blitz+shiver combo and am done with it.
DVS is pretty neat for the mask, although I believe the best weapon for the job is Volcanic Pepperbox and the second to best is Blitz Needle. Still, I think its reasonable to make a DVS instead of WHB with that cutter. If you intend to keep it, that is. Bopp has a neat comparison in his guide.
Anyway, do you know of flash charging? It's a sadistic thing you can do by releasing an attack, preferably a charge (but things like the second swing of a heavy sword works too), when either stun or the boosts from Maskeraith's Deadly Cloak or Drakon's Frenzied Firestorm wear off. When you unleash the charge, you unleash two charges and no one knows why but it's really powerful for say, a Blitz Needle charge vs Vana's mask.
An interesting note about flash charges - they only seem to affect 'additional effects' from the charge, not what your knight does. So the bullets from a blitz charge and second explosion from a suda/trig charge would be doubled on a flash charge - thi would lead me to assume that a flash charge with DVS would duplicate the ghost swings. More research into flash charged should really be conducted.
I only have a seraphynx and haven't even managed to max it after a thousand hours playtime so I don't really think I'm the most suitable to start working on a maskeraith to test this with the cloak.
Another funny thing - in my experience blitz is more effective against the mask than pepperbox anyways. Then again my pepperbox is quite low level ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On topic - I've seen some people with ASI max (though armour and such) DVS go ham on the mask and it sure does work - but you're still better off just killing it in one attack with a maskeraith-buffed blitz flash charge.
No, flash charges seem to work with everything. Or at least the last hits of combos and charges. I pulled off a double combo finisher on a lumber after it had stunned me this morning. 400 damage in T2 with one Acheron hit is pretty glorious.
I believe it was Sandwich Potato who shared an anecdote with me not so long ago. He said he had seen someone fight someone else in Downtown in Lockdown. One of them got stunned and the other one would've beaten him easily, had he not gotten a duplicated second hit with a DA, leading to the demise of the one who was not stunned.
On flash charging...
It seems to function as finishing the combo with the ASI and without the ASI. My guess for the cutter charge would be that 1 swing + 1 ghost swing would be duplicated per time area is overlapped.
That being said...
WHB/DVS gets 5 swings (+5 ghost) at the strength of valiance (+ AP for ghost).
Using Zeddy's data to estimate raw damage at D28...
WHB gets 280*5+209*5 without boosts
Blitz gets 354*15 without boosts
VP gets 280*15 without boosts
Tack in resistance and boosts (max damage + 10% mask/drakon), those values change to...
308*5+192*5 for DVS (assuming no poison)
379*15 for Blitz
308*15 for VP
Looks like blitz is the best still, unless poison plays a giant role in Vana's armor.
Blitz Needle is so much stronger than Volcanic Pepper that it's still better against the mask.
Of course, in the purely hypothetical event that there's a patch coming up buffing Pepper's damage, that would change.
I agree with Zeddy, possessing both pepperbox and blitz I can say blitz is superior to pepperbox in every way short of jellies and constructs, even when vanaduke's mask is weak to normal.
About Flash Charges, depending on timing, I realise I can either double damage with the initial swing of brandish (and cause no explosions), or I can choose to release it so my explosions deal double damage instead.
Hammer's dash seems to deal decent DPS to the mask too, now that I think about it. Though you should use AT for it lest you dash off into the fire orbs or something.
Blitz still remains the highest DPS against the mask, and from experience in a party of two the blitz charge will outdamage the health boost from a 2person party, and is actually more effective than soloing the mask in a 1 person party with a single blitz charge.
But I digress! When I get bored in FSC and start bringing all sorts of things the charge of DVS is not so bad on the mask, especially considering its weakness to normal damage. The poison also helps any party members with blitz charges. I never tried it, but you could attempt to flash charge with its charge attack, if you are able to charge it fast enough (DVS has a relatively fast charge in comparison to other weapons), though I figures using a combo might make more use out of the damage and speed bonus.
I don't see it as weakness to normal damage. The mask is slightly resistant to everything but normal.
It's relative. You could say it's neutral to everything and weak to normal or resistant to everything but normal but in the end, it's the same because normal damage will be more effective against it than equivalent specialised damage will be.
@Theirillusion
Just as superman isn't weak to kryptonite. He's just resistant to everything except kryptonite.
I use DVS all the time. It works well.
However, I use Callahan instead against Vana when he's not a mask.
hehe, just reading these, i am reminded of every Vana run i have ever been on, DVS is the sword for me, i set it with a AP, Trollaris, and blitz for all my runs and these days i have migrated from a vog set to chaos cloak and BKC with my own unique variants to soften h defense reduce(different defenses seem to fall shorter when put together). that with 2 penta's and my swit foot pet perk i am always set for a vana run
I don't know, but you might try searching for similar threads, because people have been debating this kind of thing over the years. For example, Google dvs vanaduke site:forums.spiralknights.com? Please tell us what you find out. :)
