Khorovod or Faust/Avenger

Good day.

I've been thinking of changing out my Khorovod for a sword on any of the Sealed Sword paths. My Khorovod is good and all but it just won't stack up well fighting Giant Lichen colonies and royal jellies (for Antiguas) with a Blazebrand as my second weapon, also it's charged attack isn't making me give it points for being impressive. Is it a good idea to swap it off for a paper sword though?*

Also, if it were recommended that I swap out a heavy normal damage sword for a mixed elemental and normal damage sword, which one should I go with? Avenger line or Faust line?

*bad metaphors ftw

Thanks.

obligatory

This kind of question gets asked a lot. I've constructed a detailed sword guide to answer such questions. See the section on "Troika vs. Sealed Sword".

Actually, back up to the start of the guide and read about damage types. If you're carrying a Blazebrand/Combuster, then you don't want to be carrying a second elemental sword. You want a shadow sword (such as Faust/Gran Faust) or a piercing sword (Final Flourish or BTB).

For what it's worth, at 5 stars the Khorovod-style charge attack is pretty impressive. Also, Blazebrand/Combuster's charge attack is pretty powerful against slimes. Also, I don't really recommend getting any of the Antiguas (although the impending gunner update may make them more impressive).

As Bopp said, you probably don't want Avenger because it's an elemental sword and you already have one.
If you really must get a Sealed Sword, get Faust and don't upgrade it to Grand Faust because you can make use of the curse later, as well as lack of radiants to heat it.
Staying at Khorovod will be fine, as it will cover general needs decently. You probably want to look up shield canceling and 3-swing attacks to maximise efficiency.
However, if you're really looking to be as efficient as possible, Acheron is the way to go. Currently the most overpowered sword in the game (discounting possible Hammer), it will murder slimes. It does more damage to undead than Cold Iron Vanquisher, for goodness' sake.
For specialized cases, trying out the Dark Briar Barrage line or the Blitz Needle line may prove effective.

thanks

Thank you both for your opinions so far. Though in response to Legend. You mentioned the Acheron as 'the way to go'. So is it recommended to pair it up with Avenger/Divine Avenger (pending) to for that, or stick to the Blazebrand/Combuster.

The Divine avenger only

The Divine avenger only really outdoes the Combuster charge attack when it comes to dealing a killer blow to the Roarmulus twins. It is also good at keeping slow moving enemies at bay with that charge, but without a decently high CTR it can be lacking.

The Khorovod charge is what makes it a good weapon. The Gran Faust is mainly used for its regular swing as it's charge is risky (maybe even more than a FOV).

certainly

Jenrim, if you're looking for power and ease of use (but not novelty), then Acheron+Combuster is what you want. Or you could go Gran Faust+Combuster. Or Final Flourish+Combuster. The main thing is that you carry two non-normal damage types. (It's all in my guide, by the way.)

Certainly Acheron and Combuster are the "best" swords in the game, in terms of power and ease of use. Voltedge and Obsidian Edge are similar. Warmaster Rocket Hammer is also very powerful, but not as easy to use. Glacius is slightly less powerful. Final Flourish and Barbarous Thorn Blade used to be top-quality swords, before their lengths were nerfed and Acheron was buffed.

I don't know about you but

I don't know about you but I'd much rather take a sudaruska against gremlins than a flourish line, because knockdown :D

I am and always shall be a crusader for normal weapons - which weapons I take against enemies will depend more on how they work than their damage type. However taking two easy to use weapons of differeing damage types is also more effective.

if I *had* to take a sealed sword with a combuster, I'd take the faust. However, I think that you would be much better off not getting a sealed sword at all, instead using the tokens to buy jelly gear that you can sell to a vendor for crowns, and getting yourself some kind of gun. I'd recommend callahan or biohazard, because damage types ;D

Edit: I say guns because as we all know guns are the strongest weapon type.

I just reread the op and it says "replacing" your khorovod with a sealed sword line... I would not reccomend that, I'd say get something with a different palystyle altogether if you really want to spend the crowns on a new weapon.

Or you could just get faust, and have the curse thing going on for like 1/10 of the price since you wouldn't have to upgrade it.

Reviewed every detail

Reviewed every detail mentioned. Thanks guys. So complementing the loadout I have. I guess I'll go for the Faust/Gran Faust and actually keep the Khorovod for a rainy day.

good idea

Good idea. After you become bored with swords like Combuster and Gran Faust, you'll want to give swords like Sudaruska a try.

Except don't upgrade to gran faust cuz faust has the superior charge attack.

Unless you're getting it for lockdown...

Bopp, why don't you recommend

Bopp, why don't you recommend getting any of the antiguas?

I don't recommend getting the Antiguas, just because the alchemers are better: higher damage in the hands of an expert, greater utility from ricochet tricks, an awesome charge attack instead of a terrible one, etc.

Antiguas are attractive because they are so easy to use. You just point at the monster and click as fast as possible. This does not impress me, because I'm willing to invest time in mastering a tricky gun. I get more pleasure from aiming well, than from clicking my mouse really quickly.

Of course, I may have to re-evaluate after the gunner update.
