graveyard, where monsters fear to tread (but spiral knights just dont care)

back in the old days of mist and automatic leveling of equipment i used to prefer getting graveyard over treasure vault because it was more fun and generally gave better payout

now that treasure boxes drop rarities which fuel the constant desire to get more stuff leveled up treasure vault is now much preferable, it was a change for the better for the treasure vault, but graveyard is just another depth, generally with less treasure boxes available but heaps of easy monsters, its almost a bore

it needs an update to buff the challenge it should provide

first off dust zombies, they fit the theme sure but they are pretty pathetic, allowing either status themed graveyards and/or random status variant zombies to spawn would liven things up a smidgeon, at least then alchemers and brandish charges wouldnt apply status to virtually every monster and on the rare occasion that you do take a hit theres a chance you might end up spasming with shock or burning alive (well as alive as a seemingly robotic humanoid space knight can be)

phantoms - are weak as... they are a little irritating but ultimately only slightly harder to deal with than the hordes of ravenous brain craving loot sacks, they need a buff so that they are a little more daunting to face - extra health would be a good start, brandish charges/combos can currently deal with them with ease, even in 4 knight dives. adding additional abilities in later tiers would be a better boost, either the ability to create revolving orb barriers that deal shadow damage(similar to the status orb barriers knights use and lasting for about as long), attack/attack speed buff to nearby monsters like an alpha wolver or even (while not in orb form) act as a resurrection totem

howlitzers - to my knowledge do not make an appearance in graveyards even though they fit the theme aesthetically and would provide some much needed ranged support for the walking dead that infest the level, dodging a dozen projectiles while killing a few dust zombies is more difficult than slaughtering a score of zombies with a couple of brandish charges

its not about making graveyard preferable again, i think its much better than you actually want treasure vault now, its about mixing it up a little and making the level more challenging/fun

I think if anything, graveyards could use variants and tweaking. There is currently only 1 random depth: Graveyard and treasure vault. What would be swell, would be if there could be another level or two to spawn in place of graveyards+treasure vaults. Graveyards could then be tweaked a small amount: a few new level segments + more phantoms. Right now, phantoms = number of players. How about phantoms = Math.ceil(number of players * 1.5) + 2?

So...

1 player = 4 phantoms
2 player = 5 phantoms
3 player = 7 phantoms
4 player = 8 phantoms

Would definitely make it more challenging.

Four phantoms?

As someone who doesn't roflstomp graveyards with a brandish, four to eight phantoms would be more of a pain to deal with than really a challenge. What graveyards need is an occasional dreadnaut and a guaranteed "battle room" at the end. We also currently have one or maybe two rooms that spawn totems. We should have more totems show up.

I do like the idea of phantoms having a resurrection ring, as that would make them a priority instead of "just another enemy caught in the crossfire". Also, give them a calibur-line spin attack to use occasionally that inflicts curse. It might also be worth it to put two treasure boxes at the end of the level, next to the elevator.

And also, I love the idea of status zombies. At least give us frozen shamblers and whatever the poison variant is called in the mix. Maybe even an occasional carnavon.

Add more treasure boxes? I

Add more treasure boxes? I haven't done a graveyard in awhile and never counted the amount of treasure boxes,if there even were any, so I can't say anything.

Graveyards have very few boxes, and instead have more crowns/mats. This is to balance out the treasure vault levels they accompany.

Yes, graveyards could be more than they are: Graveyard, where monsters die of shock. Graveyard, where monsters burn... etc...

moar phantoms?

im not really sure simply adding more easily killable mildly annoying infinitely respawning punching bags is the best solution, a stop gap at most since it would increase difficulty a bit, but not in a clever or exciting way

adding more random levels to the roster would be a different but just as effective method to make random depths more interesting, so long as they keep to the lots of boxes or lots of monsters rule, no in between, you should want to get the easy treasure box filled level but relish the chance to face off against moderately challenging levels if you're out of luck

oh yes dreadnaught battle arenas sound like a very good inclusion thanks Fangel
