Why not make a line for it?

2*
Wrench Wand
"Simply change the stone's color scheme from yellow to green, to go along with the Tender Foot Gremlin's color assignment."

3*
Ironclaw Wrench Wand
"Picks up the yellow color for the Ironclaw Gremlin's design. Charge attack shoots up 2 Ember Bolt projectiles."

4*
Darkfang Wrench Wand
"Purple coloration, for the Darkfang division. Charge attack lets loose 3 Ember Bolt projectiles.

5*
Crimson Wrench Wand
"Red color. Charge attack unleashes 5 Ember Bolt projectiles."

So this is sorta like a Normal-damage BTB charge? Or more like Antigua rapid fire in succession?

What mender's oath?

Moreso like the BTB charge was what I had in mind, since you'd want to stay at close range to do the most of the attacking considering it's a melee weapon to begin with. It's more proper in function than running around to put yourself at a distance in order to fire them one at a time in one direction without being a sitting duck. And come to think of it, modifying the projectiles to inflict elemental damage would really step up the weapon's game and attract more knights into adopting it.

The beauty of it all is that the assets for the textures, models and animations are already in the game files, so Three Rings would simply have to set up the stats and code the trajectory of the few additional Ember Bolts.

That sounds brillant, maybe now you'll see Wrench Wands being used a bit more in FSC, RT, or JK runs.
Maybe even Lockdown????? :D

@Aviri

Not at all, just mildly unrelated. The Winmillion has a similar function to the Wrench Wand, but is much more swift to the punch and more focused on simultaneous close-to-mid range combat than alternating between the two.

I agree it could definitely use a 5* upgrade, but it surely must have been discussed left and right by now.

Given that wrench wand is basically a calibur with built in construct damage, it would have a very hard time competing with leviathan blade-- not to mention the plethora of elemental brandishes that would outshine it in terms of utility and damage.

For it to be useful and actually benefit the game (as opposed to functioning as cold iron vanquisher 2.0) something new would have to be added to the line. The charge could be made incredibly powerful, the swings could be redone, or it could have some kind of well thought out and forcefully balanced healing effect. It really doesn't matter as long as it's something and new (functionality wise, new) to the game.

Maybe Thwacker variants as well...

It never stopped the Barbarous Thorn Blade, though, didn't it?

To tell it bluntly, the best I can think of is what I suggested in the thread. The fact of the matter is that the Wrench Wand is in the game now and laying low in the 2* department as it is, but expanding on the weapon with a full line would be easy to do at this point. Besides, if we're going to have a new kind of melee weapon with a different function, then getting those lances and spears out of the way is still long due.

If barbarous thorn blade had construct high and did a smaller amount of normal damage, I can assure you that people wouldn't use for anything other than messing around. I'm all for the wrench wand getting a full line. I really want to see something like that happen. But what I don't want is another dysfunctional weapon added to the game that no one wants to use. We already have enough of those.

It doesn't necessarily need a new gameplay mechanic, it just needs SOMETHING new period, so that it has a strategy for it to utilize that can be as effective as the current weapons. If it has this, it will be significantly more enjoyable to use than barbarous thorn blade: weak+normal edition. They can even just vary the hits somehow-- make it deal a ton of damage, but make it go at fang of vog like speed. Or make the first and second hit cutter speed and then have it follow up with a heavy sword like swing, with damage accordingly. Whatever works and feels good.

Cool Concept Comrade

yeah i wouldnt mind seeing this being implemented, kinda like a BTB but normal damage, bonus to constructs (which i think are the 2nd most common enemy, i think) and the charge attack sounds fair and balanced, how would the spread work though?
Like would it go from a striaght line at 2* to a V shape at 3* then a <- shape at 3*?

@Fehzor
well, i think a unique mechanic would be a "homing" effect on the charge shot, instead of firing in a straight line its shots wouldseek different targets (unless there is no targets to seek or only 1 target)
either that or put something like also has a small healing aura on charge if the wand hits an ally at the "cost" of it only working about 2% of the time and consuming some form of a "charge stack" that resets on a cooldown?

Magic Missile?

@Tatsuya-Katsu "how would the spread work though?"

-That's right. The V-shape might be a little odd considering you lose the direction to shoot straight ahead of you, but I wanted to put a larger gap between 4* and 5* to give the alchemy line an incentive to craft thoroughly to the end.

"well, i think a unique mechanic would be a "homing" effect on the charge shot, instead of firing in a straight line its shots wouldseek different targets (unless there is no targets to seek or only 1 target)"
-This isn't April's Fool. However, I fancy the idea of Gun Puppy handguns, including a Rocket Puppy variant. Come to think of it, those would be rather more fitting for the charge attack I brought up, except (or rather especially) that they are purely long-range.

@Tatsuya-Katsu

Homing would be interesting. If the charge had far enough range, I could definitely see it being a thing. It would make it exactly what it was supposed to be- a sword with a long range charge attack. Of course, balancing it with handguns, which also have long range, would be cumbersome but plausible. It could be flat out stronger than handguns, as long as it made you stand still for half a second and lunge forwards a bit. I would like this very much.

Wouldn't make an incredible amount of sense though-- none of the gremlins have anything homing whatsoever. But I'm sure that could be arranged.... right? :D :D???
