The latency isn't high, its a rather decent ping for a eu-us connection. But yeah, i agree that I could use an EU server. Or there is also the option of allowing the leader to host the instance of the party on his connection, that would also very well.
European players dedicated server
Well yes 182ms ping for a EU-US connection is pretty low indeed, but like I said SK is extremely sensitive to user's connection; that's what the problem is currently. I think for most online games a connection to the game host like the one I displayed is sufficient, but its probably not the case for SK, because even with those settings I have some troubles enjoying a lag-free game.
How do we even know if our requests are taken in account? That's an important one here; not really easy to play with constant 180ms+ ping..
I agree with this request! Playing from Finland and can not do anything in Vanaduke except lay freeze bombs due to non-stop choppy game play.
My ping test http://www.pingtest.net/result/43522936.png 251ms. Good enough for starcraft to US server, but not for Spiral Knights :(
I'm playing from CZ and experiencing only occasional lags in arenas (with graphic on 'high'). So... not much to complain about here:)
But EU server... hmmm, why not I guess. I would play on both US and EU :D
Pfffft, my Australian friends have it a lot worse.
It's better if OOO adds proper lag compensation for shields, like most FPSes have lag compensation for guns.
silty and how do u propose they do that without overpowering those with low ping?
It would be based on your ping. For example, if your ping is 300 ms, the game would wait .3 seconds before checking whether the player has their shield up, when an enemy attack hits them. For someone with a ping of 50 ms, it would only wait 0.05 seconds.
Every modern FPS uses a similar method (except it rewinds time instead of waiting) in order to allow high-ping players to use guns properly. Spiral Knights should do something like this for shields, due to the split-second reaction time required when using them.
aThanks for reviving the thread. I believe installing another server (talking of European here, BUT its could also apply to the Asian/Australian community, I have no idea which is the most important at all) is the straightest and most efficient way to deal with this "problem". Changing the game code can be double edged, being a "developper" (student) myself I know as a fact, and it especially applies to SK that any change on one setting can trigger real huge least expected unconveniences. Besides developpers of SK surely already are busy with:
-updating SK and the other games OOO developped
-Fixing other bugs
-Living their life
Now the thing is new server=investment, and eventually separating of the community. Unless, and I'd say it could be the best idea, doing like so:
-1 Server processing all the accounts data and every haven-related datas (->meaning players in haven are "located" in this server)
-"Local" hosts in the stratums (->smaller capacities and performance servers dedicated to specific groups of communities, continent-sized)
But frankly, I have NO idea how complex this is, and I can pretty much only attempt guessing how things could be done to improve our condition, which is not bad of course, but not optimized (talking of the poor foreigners like "us" :3).
Bumps!
