It'd be nice to be able to spend crowns or something to turn a piece of high level gear into a lower one in case one wants to go down a different upgrade path. My Royal Jelly shield looks like a piece of crap compared to the straight upgrade Torto ones that came after.

Mmm.

He seems to want to break the item down to its raw parts. I'm interested in transmuting an item to a baser form so it can be reconstituted into another form.

I'm down for that. I have a set I've been wanting to de-alchemize for a while now.

Alternatively, you could just

Alternatively, you could just spend a few thousand crowns on a new 2* item and craft that up instead.

Un-crafting only functions as exploits to work around time/value related game mechanics, most notably retrieving of event limited materials and rare variant unbind tax evasion.

Or you could, y'know, sell said gear piece to gain money to make a new one rather than lose money to de-craft it down and craft it back up a new branch.

Unless someone has enough Cr to not only de-craft to a base form, but also recraft it up to a different final form, I feel this would be quite a time sink trying to regain those crowns to build it back up.
