Grappling device:
Some people have introduced concepts for a grappling gun type device. There is quite a bit of support for one as well.
This is a very specialized piece of gear and I support it fully, except that it only provides the function of grappling. I came up with something like isn’t so specialized and allows a knight to carry just as many weapons as usual (Fezhor I acknowledge your whip that grapples idea: It’s good but I think mine will work better). I hope you all like it!

Introducing the Grappling Shield! My best name for it is the Buccaneer Buckler and I warmly welcome better names.

-How it works: The grapple function replaces the shield bash for this shield. Its shield health is drained to 10% to use the grapple function. Activating the grapple function will fire a small projectile (about the size of an Antigua bullet) will be fired in the direction that the knight is facing (much like a seraphynx ray of light) and this bullet will be attached to a cable. About a second later the knight will have an animation of pulling backward (similar to the stepping back during some charge attacks) and pulling his/her shield arm back. At the same time, the grappling hook will return towing a monster. The monster’s attack will be interrupted and the hook does some damage (about the same as a 5* tortodrone shield bash). If it does not hit a monster, the cable retracts very rapidly and the knight can continue fighting uninterrupted. If the monster is immovable (turret) or very heavy (Trojan, but have fun hitting one…) you will instead be pulled toward the monster. The hook will break one block, but not go through them and hit something on the other side.

-Benefits: This is a grappling device with another more versatile use and will not take up a weapon slot. The grapple function will allow a knight to take care of fast enemies quickly and control the battlefield. The knight using it can dash or run from the monster just pulled in. That can be very useful.

-Hazards of use: This shield will be 4* at max and have protection that is equal to a Stone Tortoise but have the shield health of any 3* shield. If you are drawn to a turret, you may take some damage because your shield health is so low. The attack interruption may not last long enough to prevent the user from taking any damage. The knight using the shield is stationary during the full successful grapple animation.

-Appearance: This will be a shield that is kite shaped with the long side being toward the elbow. The long side will also be rounded on the edges, but still come to a point at the elbow. The shield will have a winch and gun barrel to fire off the grappling hook and have gears that turn, meshed together on the lower edge of the shield. Something like this mounted on this.

If you have any input to make this shield better, don’t hesitate to give it. Once again, please suggest a better name. I chose this one because pirates use grappling hooks to board other ships.

It would be an interesting mechanic. I'm picturing something like...
This.

Not exactly what I had in mind....

I was picturing something like this mounted on this.
I am glad that you like it though. I will add my version of the appearance to the first post to clear that up.

If the grapple hits max range without hitting anything, does it pull you to that location on the ground? That would be fun. Also what happens if you grapple over a gap to a turret?

Ooo...

Also what happens if you grapple over a gap to a turret?
Know that compound that has isolated turrets? Yeah, I want to be back there with them.
In all likelihood you would probably just stop at the gap/wall. Probably make the grapple stop at the wall itself and pull you there.

Also if the grapple could stun/freeze/flinch the target to prevent players from being smacked when they use the grapple, that would be great.

Fangel, you might notice that Elt said that the monster's attack would be interrupted when grappled on to. So yes, flinching. It also can be noticed that there is an invisible wall where there isn't a floor, so it would be a pain to code grappling over gaps. Another fun scenario to be allowed to grapple over gaps: Scarlet Fortress: The Grim Gallery. Mainly the part where you carry a statue through a path guarded by Gunpuppies that are isolated on platforms with spikes connecting them to the passage. That would be fun to grapple to! The only place you could stand on would get you killed! Still, it looks like a great idea.
