Plate Shield buff

Lets face it, few use plate shields of any kind.

Even the end results are kind of meh.

Why not give the shields a buff?

Give Volcanic plate shield an elemental resist bar (equal to the pierce resist of the IronMight), and give the Ironmight another Status (Freeze resist for example since no other shield has pierce and freeze naturally).

Since these are Shields you won't hear anyone in the LD community complaining and this buff would certainly encourage players to get one or both (for Vana and Ice Queen).

Volcanic already sees usage

People get the volcanic plate shield because of the fire resistance honestly. Ironmight doesn't really have anything going for it but if you buff one the other should be buffed too. Maybe just increase both of their base health and call it a day.

Volcanic shield is a pure

Volcanic shield is a pure normal damage shield, honestly it only has the stun resist that sets it apart, most grab an Owlite or COA (or that dragon scale shield). Giving it Elemental would put it on par with the armor of it's set.

I suggested buffing both (if you read) give Volcanic elemental resist, and Ironmight Freeze resist.

We could buff the entire Ironmight set with freeze resist to help put it on par with the Volcanic set.

I do read the suggestions, silly

Pretty sure we have some science to back up the fact that status resistances are more important than damage type when it comes to shields. Buffing one line should buff the other in it's alternate respect. i.e., give volcanic elemental resist AND ironmight freeze. Can't do one without the other.

However, buffing the overall health of both shields would make them a more viable option. Maybe even buff the tortomega shield thingy so it's more of a reflection on the other tortodrone shields.

The Grand tortoise

The Grand tortoise (tortodrone shield upgrade of plate shield) is just an Ancient plate shield with an MSD and doubled shield bash damage. If you want to buff it then you need to buff the Ancient plate shield (but with what?)

The Shield HP buff you propose would have to keep it lower than the Omega Shell HP (since it is a purely normal no status shield it has to have the most HP).

(of course we could buff them all!)

Three Rings loves its buffs

I'd love to see all the plate lines get buffed in terms of health. Even if just slightly.

Would make the shields a more solid choice for anyone trying to fill a guardian role.

Or...

we could add more shields!
Some people already do use Volc/Ironmight (even Ancient) for the crazy normal. People use Ironmight instead of Jelly--pierce and stun but one has crazy Normal. Volc has crazy Normal and fire, that's cool. People use Grand Tort for... some reason...

How about we just add a few more shield lines and/or branches instead?

I think compared to Armor, Swords, Guns, and Bombs, that shields are doing pretty well in terms of options and balance. We need balance for the 30 different 5* armors that you've never seen in game before over one line of shields.

Short of Trojans( and some

Short of Trojans( and some others) normal is much less effective in T3 than type defense. I suggested in http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/104707 that we give Ancient plate set shadow/curse resistance.

This would make that armor more viable (even with the HP buff the ASI/MSI is what kills you) and would give plate armors more choices.

More status resists and defense types would make people get these shields and keep them. Adding a defense type along with a stun/other status resist would make these ASI decrease armors viable.

I've already spoken my mind about shields.
