Just an interesting idea to shake up LD a bit more: what if at the beginning of every match each player was assigned a monster family (beast, gremlin, fiend, undead, construct, slime)? The player would receive whatever damage weaknesses/resistances that their assigned family would have, but at the same time they would be vulnerable to UVs with damage bonuses to certain families. This tweak would make all UVs applicable in LD and would mix up LD in an interesting way.

Here's a better one, each player's equipped loadout is randomly pass to another player and loadout's are locked.

I like this idea better, but in terms of this idea I think it would be better to base the family on the armor the player is wearing, instead of randomized. That way you could actually counter other people's armors with family UVs.

You're part of the way there

Making a PvP game determine how much damage you're going to be taking from certain weapons via an RNG is a bad design. Instead things of that sort should be static.

In the past I was in support of family UVs being effective vs certain armor types, but then we would need to go through every set and figure out what monster family to apply to the gear, and even then some gears would have no family on them. What do you classify cobalt as? How about the magic set? Bombtastic demo? We can't determine it by defense type, as that just gets more awkward.

Instead now I'm in support of applying two monster families to each lockdown shield. This makes it so you can further specialize your character and their weapons. I'd like to see beasts and fiends (known for speed/dodging) as striker, constructs and undead (known as slow moving and having larger pools of health) as guardians, and slimes and gremlins (nothing for slimes, but gremlins have stalkers who cloak) as recons.

But don't make these classes take bonus damage from certain damage types. That is why we wear our armor, as its defenses determine what we will be protected against. It would really be annoying to take extra piercing damage while wearing full jelly.
