Instead of being kills while on a held point, Defends should be changed to kills+assists while on a held point. Assuming the game engine can calculate assists. It would make bombing and defending points in general more incentivized and, hopefully, done more often.

Restraining defends to just on the point is kinda harsh, imo. I'd like to see them take place for a greater area around a cap, no matter what changes are done to the system.

They already take place in an area around the cap, near the glowing points on the floor.

@Contri

Have we tried this yet? I have never heard of any studies of the defend system, really. I've just heard about what how they supposedly work and haven't really doubted it.

EXPLAIN!

What exactly would count as an assist?

Restricting their movement with recon bumping, or playing guardian and protecting the striker?
Would it be dealing a bit of damage before the person dies (you could get assists all day with proto gun switch shooting)?
Would it be based on how much damage you deal? (Haze bomb's barely deal damage but are a huge assist)

If you're going to add an assist tracker, then you might as well make it so the damage tab can expand and show you the damage dealt to every player on the other team. Because in theory a whole team can deal damage to a single player before he dies. If the data has to be tracked, might as well display it.

Also, decaps should be counted too. It's kind of unfair that a person who dies while the point is near captured gets no credit. After all, he/she did the hard work of holding it up until that point.

contri saying you're too lazy to show a study yet you state unsourced information really prevents any way of believing that

@deleted
I agree with the decap thing, I usually need to stand invisible on a point alone for the whole thing no matter how many times I tell my team to stop focusing on only damage

For assists I would say either dealing ≥10% of their life, or inflicting a disabling status (Freeze/Shock/Stun), or dealing poison and having ≥10% of the dmg taken attributed to the increased damage taken because of the poison. (does that make sense?) Also death marking a target that takes ≥10% of its hp or dies while marked, and shielding an ally from damage from an enemy that that ally either kills or gets an assist on. If the target heals so that the damage you dealt is negated, you don't get an assist anymore.

And +1 to Deleted.
