I know you can get a UV on things like a Poison Ward that came with a purchased pack.
What about gear from regular vendors?
If I buy 30 Proto Swords from Kragen, could I randomly get some UVs?
What about token gear from Brinks?
If I buy 20 Antiguas, could I randomly get some UVs?
I think I know the answers but I'd like to verify with the community.

Are you sure about the Brinks weapons? I think I've seen a BTS with a status type UV, which is impossible to Punch. I could be wrong though.

I have purchased a good 30-45 weapons and gear pieces from Brinks, and have never found a variant, nor have I ever heard of anyone receiving a variant in such a fashion.
I don't think that it is possible.

I've never seen UVs from Brinks, after many tens of items. If it's possible at all, the rates are much lower than for crafting. So it seems impossible.
I guess that the BTS with status must have come during an upgrade. I agree that it is impossible from Punch.
Good point. Whatever I remember seeing was probably an upgraded version of the shield, not the 2*.

Confirmed! I got a Poison Med by Alchemizing my Bristling Buckler up. This is the only way to get it.
I used to farm snarby for items to sale (since I could run the mission really fast) and i never EVER got one straight from Brinks.
