What do you make of monsters that split or become other monsters?

We've seen some examples of this, during last anniversary and most recently with the large grave scarabs tied to zombies.

I think that they could really make for interesting and difficult content, especially if they were to tie easier enemies to bulkier or more difficult ones, making for faster or slower solutions depending on your team's overall strategy.

Imagine a special giant lichen colony resembling a glop drop that spawns glop drops and when killed, becomes n-1 smaller lichens where n is the number of smaller lichens it was created from. These smallest lichens could then turn into 2-3 glop drops each when killed. The amount of coordination required to take down such a beast would be phenominal under all but the simplest circumstances.

Similarly, we could forseeably get enemies that incorporate turrets into this- if you kill that scuttle bot, it drops down, sizzles, and grows into a gun puppy resembling a scuttle bot.

Devilites that summon trojans when killed?

Grievers that become silkwings?

Gremlin demos that become grievers?

I honestly wondered whether to put this in general discussions or here, because I think that the developers would be foolish to ignore these possibilities.

meh

Make this into a boss room scenario or something and I'll be on board, we don't need any more OP monsters; Minis, and Gorgos were bad enough.

We totally need more op monsters lol. The knight is stronger than ever! The knight gets new weapons and doesn't even have hard enough areas to warrant using them! Tortoguns would end the slime I suggested without a second thought... But few knights ever think to use it.

We also need more op payouts in the clockworks. How would you feel about fighting the terrible slime monster and receiving twenty radiant fire crystals? Naturally, we would have to add in areas for these crazy monsters as well, and no, I wouldn't just make these levels pop up in tier one. I'm thinking stratum 6 or later ,if applicable.

Gorgos and minis aren't bad at all compared to what I want to see.

.

Basically, an Asteroids-type monster?

I could see neat applications for this, but there is the difficulty concern mentioned earlier. Properly tuned, it could be interesting.

All in all, I am tentatively giving my support for this idea, but with reservations regarding toughness. Maybe put them in Danger Rooms, or use them as mini-bosses?

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

gorgos and minis OP? my DBB doesn't think so.

spawners could go with construct monsters, actually. kill one, and two rise from its parts. or wolvers that have a chance to summon more wolvers on death- oh wait, that wouldn't mean that much.

wait, gremlins that become grievers? how does that work?

They could skin and theme the mobs to make sense. Like the demo would have a caged griever on her back.

I really want these as just harder more awesome levels though. I never get to really fight mini bosses enough. And danger rooms lol.
