Non-Cosmetic Promo Items That Scale With Your Rank

This was prompted by the Guardians Armor Pack DLC sale. Promotional armors look awesome, but sadly are restricted to only costumes. This is great for keeping the game P2W free (mostly), but sometimes you just want to wear those armors as armors. So, what I'm proposing is to make these items either exact clones or slight variants of existing armors, but have them upgrade as you progress through the game.

For example, let's take the Celestial Set. If you bought it as a Recruit, it would have the same stats as proto armor. When you became Apprentice it would have the same stats as Breaker armor, but the amount of elemental defense is converted to more normal and it resists stun instead of fire, shock or freeze. From 3* onward it would follow the path of Angelic -> Seraphic -> Valkyrie, but would have stun resist instead of poison and freeze vulnerability instead of fire.

This way you can buy a promo armor at any point and actually use it as real armor, but not have the problem of buying T3 gear in T1 or the Honor Gear/Starter Pack problem of having useless T1 or T2 gear as a Vanguard. And probably more people will buy the promos for the chance of getting actual useful items.

Ideally these armors would just have been released as permanent content armors with these stats instead of as promos, but I know that's not going to happen. :p

hehee..

i also wish they were armors that have a varied stats that differs a little from the original armors. Alas it is not so, but your suggestion would mean that when ever promo cosmetic item is invented, there will be a copy that has a small difference in visual design but will be permanent content to the game. I don't think it's a bad idea, but at the same time, the game would go pay 2 win all the way sense most of these armors can only be obtained via cash money up front. so this is 50-/50+

Hmmm...

Yes and no.

Making promotional armors scale with players so they are always useful is great, but definitely makes the end-game grind a complete laugh. There's no stop to the train that is the story at that point, and although that might sound great to some, once you reach end-game there's not much to do. Making players pay for a promo so they can skip one of the key slowing-down bits of the game does make it pay to win. Win as in complete the story.

Making promo items have unique stats is also not a good way to go about promos. When that item has unique stats, then it is now a completely new piece of gear in the eyes of the game. Power mitt for example, is a shield that's not the same but is almost the same thing as a heater shield. It will be objectively better in certain levels than the "reskin" is.
With armors especially it would make a PvP environment get really wonky. New stun resistant gear? Pay for it to win. That sort of thing would happen.

All in all, I'm going to say no to this suggestion. What it fixes with promos it breaks with the game.

The only thing that was good

The only thing that was good out of the guardian pack was the armor, straight up the best defensive armor for T1 LD (which is dead).

The rest of the weapons were kind of lackluster, a fire cutter which lacked the key flinch feature, a normal Antigua that broke it's own freeze (and had a useless non piercing charge), and a shock bomb with such a pitiful radius no one would ever use it.

It would be far better if SK introduced these as new 5 star weapon lines, this would get people crafting something that would actually be useful.

A Fire cutter line with WHB flinch on charge.

A Freeze Antigua that let you setup charges far easier than any other Antigua line.

A Shock bomb with respectable radius and charge as well as a status that helps improve DPS.

A better idea would be to have a special vendor in the HOH that sold recipes for upgrades of these items, this would bring new content, encourage more item crafting, and makes sure they got their moneys worth.

@Fangel

But that's the thing, it doesn't speed up progression at all. You would have to make a full 5* set to get Champion clearance, and once you did that your promo set would upgrade to a lvl 1 5* set. So it's not like you get to skip all the grinding.
