edit - new question posted - what is the best place to farm Radiants? Evidently I'm going to need a LOT of these...

So I played this game quite a while ago... When I played last the chapeau were all the rage. Anyway - since the crafting change from CE to this forge stuff I haven't played. I recently decided to load the game up and have some fun. I'm glad to see a gunner update, since I've always played guns / bombs.

Anyway - so I did all of the quest things so I could be called a vanguard. That was fun... But where do ppl play now? Back then it was jelly runs and fsc runs. What do ppl grind now that I could jump in with randoms and not be alone?

Also - it took me a bit to figure out that some recipes I needed were for sale in the HoH. That was a surprise, I grinded to basil a dozen times looking for some gunslinger armor 5* recipes and found out that they were just for sale... Odd surprise, kinda good b/c easy to get, kinda bad because I was used to grinding for any recipe.

What do you grind for now? What items should I watch for, or be excited to get? Are there good recipes from Basil only? If so, what are the hottest items I should watch for?

Anyway - my ign is Captain-Teemo. If I'm on, I like to party ^_^

Welcome back! People have

Welcome back! People have been doing plenty of vanaduke/arcade runs (heat/recipes); all of the new gunner update gear is basil only, as are any boss token weapon line recipes (such as the polaris/crest of almire).

to add

To add to what others have said (which is all correct), you might want to skim Release/all for a record of all major updates.

The main weapons I use are

The main weapons I use are Ardent Peacemaker, Sentenza, Callahan, Volcanic Pepper Box, Ash of Agni, Shivermist Buster, and Voltaic Tempest.

Are any of those out dated? Are there new items I should replace any of those with?

Welcome back to the game! And...

Regarding those weapons, excluding the bombs, there really isn't anything there for you to change.
From what I'm hearing:
AP and Sentenza have an upgraded damage bonus from MED to HIGH.
Callahan (Patch Notes) now pierces through multiple targets on charge, with no stagger / recovery period.
*Volcanic Pepper Box has received a buff to its (damage / status effect?), with more manageable charge and regular clips.

*Not sure if true or not...

But overall, there isn't anything you should replace, unless you decide to get the new Gilded Griffin, Winter Grave, or Grim Repeater for specialized purposes.

algorithms are the solutions to any problem.

all of autogun series have now blitz's range. also the normal shot is usable as a normal attack as it doesn't root you to the ground for that much long.
the antigua series has now a viable charge attack, as the recovery animation for it was sped up. enjoy spamming owls.

I don't think that, in terms of guns, any should replace others in terms of viability now. well, maybe blitz needle because vana, but you can kill the mask pretty fast with VP.

my two cents

Before this big gunner update, my advice would have been to replace your Argent/Sentenza with Nova/Umbra Drivers. They are more fun to use, they do more damage in the hands of an expert, you can get statuses on the elemental one if you want, etc.

After this update, you should consider replacing Sentenza with Winter Grave or Grim Repeater or perhaps Permafroster (I'm not sure how well that last one works). And you should still replace Argent with something better: Nova Driver, Storm Driver, maybe Wildfire? Give them a try, anyway.

And if you do decide to use

And if you do decide to use Alchemers, turn Auto-Target OFF. It messes up the ricochet.

Another Question - Evidently

Another Question - Evidently heating gear is MAD EXHAUSTIVE. What is the best way to farm radiants? Doing clockworks? FSC? What should I be doing? Some people say they have excess, and I just don't see how. 700 energy barely let me gain a few levels :\

21 Radiants in FSC?? O_O Wow, I only get 3-6...

In regards with radiants

Firstly it all comes down to luck
Secondly doing shadow lairs is a good way to get radiants
Thirdly doing depth 28 arenas in the arcade is good on elite of course
Fourthly in my opinion it doesn't matter if u do fsc or arcade fsc but doing fsc misson saves time
Lastly I reinterate this is all based on luck mostly

data

To say that it all comes down to luck is to say that it's random, which is true. But that doesn't mean that you have no idea what to expect. There is a central tendency or average, and the number of Radiants tends to fall somewhere around this average. By collecting more and more data, we can get a better and better idea of the average and how tight the clustering about that average is.

Lancer Knightz currently has an average around 17, but they don't have many data. Another poster (I forget who) reports running FSC many times this fall with an average of 18. So the true average is probably somewhere around there. Of course, you don't always achieve this average. Sometimes you get fewer Radiants, and sometimes you get more.

Captain-Teemo, I suspect that Arcade FSC and mission FSC are identical in their Radiant payouts. What's more important is that the drop rate of Radiants changes over time, most notably in release 2014-02-26. That's another reason why we must keep taking measurements.

Oh wow O_O How long has this

Oh wow O_O How long has this "difficulty" thing been out? I think that's where I'm running into problems. I didn't know I had to set this bar to elite to get stuff. That's prolly also why I'm never finding groups, I bet ppl only run elite on these things.

Thanks for letting that slip Comics, I had no clue.

Difficulty levels were introduced in the 2013-07-30 release --- the mega-update with battle sprites, forge, no more mist, etc.

You don't have to be on Elite difficulty to get rarities. But Three Rings claims that your chances are improved. I don't have data on it one way or the other.

Well Bopp - on normal I got 3

Well Bopp - on normal I got 3 or sometimes 6 radiants on FSC. Each time I'd ONLY get them in the chests after clearing the boss. I just did 2 runs on elite and both times I got 12, 6 before and 6 after the boss. So I'd say it's more than "OOO claims."

More than that though - now I'm not playing alone. This game felt like a ghost town in the clockworks. Both of these FSC runs were full ^_^ Yay players!!!

imo - it's kinda dumb that OOO introduced the difficulty levels. There wasn't really a change in gameplay, it was just more punishing if you got hit, and took more hits to clear. It wasn't actually "harder," but did separate me from other players. Why would someone play a tier 3 dungeon NOT on elite? You need 5* equips to get there anyway...

I agree about the difficulty levels. They fragment the player base, without making the game much more interesting. Probably there should be just two difficulties, if not just one.

I agree that your anecdotal evidence supports the claim that difficulty affects rarities. If I had the exact data, I could do a statistical test to tell you how confident we can be in that claim. My guess is that there are not enough data to be very confident yet. But it's good to be aware of.
