Dear OOO, Thank you for a nice game.
I have a suggestion, please. Would you consider letting players at least sell their crystals to a vendor at a star-material price. (I don't need 7,000 Shining Fire Crystals.--and counting.)
Thank you.

Meep.

A problem with this is that many will be exploiting this money-making tactic.
25 crowns per shining fire crystal...
A normal In Cold Blood run harvests about 20-40 shining fire crystals, which would equate to 500cr-1kcr per run extra + a normal run's output.

Another problem is that: You've got 7,000 shining fire crystals at the moment. I've got a couple of buddies who have about 10k+. Updating the game with that feature would instantly rock the economy and many would easily get crowns. And of course, energy prices will increase greatly.

Depends on the price

I'd love to be able to sell my shining fire crystals. I have over 20k of the things and no use for them, other than the new gear we have, but those won't even make a dent in the wall of crystals.

There are like, what, 18

There are like, what, 18 standard 4* materials? Prior to sprite food, the majority of 4* materials collected had no use; you can't just freely craft them away on a whim without putting time and money into the process. The economy didn't crash from people dumping them into the NPC trashcan.

If you could dump them this way, then sure, there would be an effect on the economy. But it would be short term, once you dump your 10k crystals today you can't do it again tomorrow.

Hahah, I still remember struggling to get anywhere while I was still a Knight Elite.

But by thr time you reach Vana, with all the gear you would ever need, suddenly you'll experience a huge excess of old resources.

Well, shineys are a nuisance

I think that SK should do something about Shineys. I mean, we can't just continue to "collect" them for no purpose.
THEN, let us sell them at a vendor on a different price scheme than mats. Heck, I will take 4 crs for a shiney any day.

You're supposed to have too many of them. Think about it-

If you can vendor them for cheap-> "I already have combuster, chaos set and a handgun, I don't need to craft things. I'd rather have the crowns to roll more unique variants and be boring."

If you can't vendor them or do anything-> "I might as well use these fire crystals to craft more gear because winmillion looks fun and derpy and I can't really do anything else with these rarities going to waste"

I'm honestly proud of SEGA/Three Rings for making this decision the way they did. When I go on runs, most of the time it's the same old brandish spammin' time... anything to diversify people's loadouts is appreciated.

The only flaw is that radiant fire crystals aren't easy enough to come by. I don't care if it's the same grind as it always was, allowing people to craft more gear freely would be such a boon for the game, when all of the entertainment just doesn't need to be locked away like it is.

Too many?

Well, my issue is not having--it is that the drop rate is excessive, especially relative to the Rad drop. "Too many" IS the problem. Not allowing players to sell at vendor because one will then (most likely) use them to craft is a good point; however, rolling for UVs with whatever crs one gets through selling I would not agree makes one a "boring" player. (The chances of getting a good roll is slim and expensive, and four crowns for a shiney means one needs a great number before any roll could be even attempted, even if that is what the player wanted to do with the extra crs.) I could just as well say that with the extra crs, a player would buy more recipes for crafting, or use for the guildhall, etc...I don't think allowing players to sell shinings at a vendor is a big deal. At least let me dumpster them.
But thanks for the responses and possible rationales of why SK has this policy.
Cheers.

It's not a possible rationale- it's what Nick told us when the rarities were introduced.

"As you play, you will find over time that you have more orbs than you need for the upgrade of your initial choice of weapons, and that you have the resources to build a broader arsenal of gear. This, in turn, will make it easier for Spiral Knights players to experiment with more varied equipment and gameplay styles."

Well, he said it about orbs, but I believe that this would carry over to fire crystals as well, as they are also a limiting factor when crafting.

As you said...

I mentioned "possible" rationale as I didn't re-call that explanation. But I am now informed. Thanks.
However, that is not the issue: The suggestion that I am making is that players should be allowed to sell crystals at a vendor, if that is what they wish.
How would that negatively impact the game? No more exploring "with more varied equipment and game play styles"?
Well, this isn't chess. Essentially, I can do every (regular) mission at elite with a Chaos set, Swiftstrike Buckler, and Shockburst. (I don't even need a second weapon.) So what would get me to buy other gear if what I have works? Answer: more crowns, ergo, let us sell crystals at vendor.
Cheers.

Battle Sprites and UVs have....

...made any need for varied gear moot. I don't know what your gear/sprite situation is, Fehzor, but I suppose you would consider me a "boring" player as
I try to make my gear the the best. I haven't ever noticed from any teammates any comments that I am a boring teammate to play with because my gear is at max, quite the contrary. The only reason I would change my gear is if I had more crs, but even then I would not change because what I have works best--and, you see, some players already have everything. Therefore, let us sell crystals at vendor. (Nick obviously hadn't anticipated anyone staying with the game for years and counting and having nothing left to do but just play-which is what I do.) Heck, I don't even need the crs, I just would like to make more as that is the only goal left.

In any case, thanks for the responses, and I hope SK considers my suggestion.
Cheers.
