Catalyzers are the only gun from the GU which has incredibly mixed reviews (all the rest, especially Magnus, got straight up positive reviews). As a way to keep both sides happy why not just have a total of 4 catalyzer lines? 2 with the old mechanics, and 2 with the new mechanics.

I'd also suggest an elemental

I'd also suggest an elemental Catalyzer. Because Catas work best against Undeads and Constructs anyway.

Hell, might as well make the Neutralizer do elemental damage :p

Because then instead of 2 problematic handguns we have 4.

If SEGA didn't keep the original Shard Bombs after the negative feedback, why would they bother keeping the original Catalyzers?

Whimsicality has just stated why this idea won't work with the current developer team. I suggest you suggest cookies, instead.

The old shards, from what I

The old shards, from what I have seen and heard about were very OP, the new shards on the other hand are very underpowered. Both the old and new Catalyzers never received complaints about being OP. However, both the new and old catalyzers get complaints over ease of use.

With the old ones you had trouble using the charge but you could still function with it as a regular gun. It didn't FORCE you to rely on the charge for damage. The New catalyzers pretty much Force you to use the charge. I don't like being forced to play a certain way by any weapon (bombs excluded since they are charge exclusive)

If weapons and gear are changed based on their power compared to others, why do we still have: Acheron, Gran Faust, Blitz Needle, Divine Avenger, Combuster, Voltedge, Storm Driver, Hail Driver, Swiftstrike Buckler, Chaos, Black Kat, Skolver, Snarbolax? These are all examples of gear whose power completely overwhelm everything else and their drawbacks, if any, are negligible.

If gear is made to be improved from change, then why haven't we heard from: Divine, Grey Feather, Skelly, Jelly, Valkyrie, Chroma, Plate, Bombastic Demo, Mad Bomber, Troikas, Spurs, Cutters, Vortexes, Cold Iron Vanquisher, the Tortodrone Guns, Shard Bombs, an elemental bomb that's damage based rather than utility based? These are all gear which could be improved from minor tweaks. Whether it's slight health boosts to compensate for lack of offense, higher status resist to compete with offensive gear that players love slapping UVs on, attack speed for Troikas to match similar weapon lines, fixing glaring issues that cause them to be unusable in the current build of the game, and the removal of inconsistent things like "invincitinks".

All items should have a

All items should have a balance of utility and power. Vortexes may be comparably weak but their utility in clump combos is stellar.

The problem with 'defensive' sets is that they really aren't that defensive. The way damage resist is calculated means that Volcanic plate will never be the counter it should be to DA and Wildfire spam. Tanking with armor choice just isn't an option in this game, especially not when tanking sets barely shave off any damage. You always better off with sets that let you kill enemies faster.

For weapon balance you have to think about 3 factors: easy of use, utility, and power. Most, if not all the high powered weapons score high in all these. A balanced weapon always lacks in one of these.

Catalyzers never scored high on any of these really. It was a very niche weapon, good for only a few situations that never cropped up.
