Why was it ever changed? This way energy would have more use again as the only real use I can think of for it now is buying orbs? You could still have the spark of life, but only for say missions or something like that? Revive has now become very hard to do see and lower level players are often used just to give other players revive (I seen it before) because they are to naive, and this way they would be wasting less money?
Bring back the old revive system?
it's probably one of the few moves that OOO did to make veterans happier. you see, the new revive system isn't nearly as costly as the old one, in which the cost kept doubling. so, the more you revive, the more efficent the current method is compared to the old one.
and I keep seeing this "we don't need energy anymore" when everything is available in the supply depot where it's very easy to get.
EDIT: oh, if you meant health sharing, it's because alt farming.
Wasn't that solved by enemies not dropping their pockets for dead players?
P.S. I wonder why beasts have money on them.
The reason revives were changed was because of how they played out.
Lets say I die like five times every level and you revive me. Now we're both at one health, because you have (1/2)^5 of your initial health, which is always going to be next to none. This breed a strange defensive meta for the game, whereby players relied on sonic mode and health sharing revives, which was simply unacceptable.
I proposed a battle sprite ability that would allow for health sharing revives because they did promote teamwork, here- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/100480
I disagree with that statement as nobody dies five times. With the free revive as well you will need to use up your energy just once or twice at the most I should think (if with a good team and actually eligible for the mission not at all). There also used to be mist which would generate, so it is actually cheaper. Though I must say the sprite idea is brilliant!
"Nobody dies five times"
Nope. I die waaaay more than that on any level harder than Vana. Or sometimes ON Vana!
Anyway, health sharing was removed for the reasons above, alt runs, 1 health runs, etc.
The current system isn't bad per se, I think it's okay. It helps that you can find Sparks literally from anywhere.
Maybe Three Rings can make it so that you can only share health when you have a full bar? Anything to reduce the cost of reviving
People had to die a good five times before their party could wipe, and that did happen. They died that much because they came back with half of what your health was, which also makes the reviver vulnerable. If neither the reviver or the revivee is incredible at the game, it isn't unlikely for there to be problems.
And I'm glad you like my sprite idea. I don't think it will become implemented because of the negative attitude people take against health sharing in general- they assume that it's all 100% bad and that we can't ever have anything like it again, which is just nonsense.
Haha, one thing I like about the new reviving system is that it makes me a lot more cautious...
Okay, that's a lie, I still burn through 10 sparks easily in "A Pinch of Salt".
------
The new system also - from what I've been through at least - makes sure that the party isn't entirely dependant on one person to start dishing out energy and reviving everyone with his/her own health.
The new Systems makes it so EVERYONE has to pull their own weight?
I think I like the Hp sharing system better because it was Faster to bring a ally back and Think about it: Players that don't have sparks has to paid 1.5k on 1 SPARK or SOL either way that losing investment that they gained. That why Three rings should bring the Hp sharing back
P.s I die a Lot on missions so yeah.... for the some reason the Only mission I Cautious on is when you do Run from slenderman Cousin ( the Guy with the Long arms, Purple skin, Black pillars anyone? )
@OP
The reason sparks replaced health sharing seemed good enough for Three Rings(I do not remember what the reason was though). I do not think they are going to revert that one anytime soon. D':
