I mean Divine Viel has two defenses, two main resistances plus curse, and a fiend bonus, so why not add another resistance to silvermail to put them on equal ground? Plus they'd make a rather versatile set together with freeze.
Give silvermail freeze resist?
What it really needs is a matching helm.....
@ Mep
DV has just as much, plus another resistance. Guess which gets used more.
@Holy
Oh, uh, that too and stuff.
Well then it would be the only specialist set with 3 status resists and a monster perk.
If it gets an additional status resist then all the other specialist sets should get one too.
Perhaps the helm could have no feind bonus, sorta like the inverse of the divine set? All the specialist gear does need a buff anyway, now that you mention it. Perhaps not a status resist, but something.
That being said, it's difficult to really treat curse like any other resistance; aside from UFSC, the only way to encounter curse is to either be in a fiend-free graveyard or use a gran Faust, something completely ineffective on fiends. I don't really think curse makes fiend armor significantly stronger than others. Of course, that does point out how underpowered basic Valkyrie is, given that ignoring curse it's got a net sum of 0 status defense. Changing valkyrie to shock + ice defense would make it incredibly popular and cause it to mesh rather well with dragon scale.
Radiant Silvermail doesn't get a fiend bonus, it has an undead bonus of Medium. If it had a set the total bonus would be Very high.
Divine set on the other hand has only a fiend Low on the whole set, in exchange for a Low and not Very high boost it gains another status resist.

Silvermail can get it's use as the only naturally curse/pierce resistant armor, while Divine is the only Elemental/curse resistant set.
I agree more statuses could be added to specialist sets but in order to make sure Divine set doesn't fall short the specialist gear could get an added status weakness as well. Divine still needs to be the most status tanky of the "family hunter" gear.
Basically give the specialist gear
3 status resists
2 status weaknesses
1 Family perk (except for Fallen set)
Whoops, yeah I meant undead.
I was talking about DV in particular, not the set. Unless it got changed and the wiki didn't update yet, DV has fiend medium, but the armor has no bonus. Like typically I see people use DV plus sklover instead of the divine set; I was balancing silvermail towards the helm in particular rather than the set as a whole, giving them both a medium monster bonus, two defenses, and three resistances, one of which is curse. If you were to make a Silvermail set, you could make the helmet give no monster bonus, like oh the divine set has no bonus on the armor. That way if you added freeze to the Silvermail set, both the sets as a whole would have;
1 medium monster bonus on one piece
2 non-normal defenses
2 strata-status resistances
curse resistance
and if you mixed the sets together using DV and RS you would have;
medium monster bonuses against both shadow dealing/resistant monsters
double bars of shadow defense
single bars of the other two specialized defenses
half of all four strata-statuses
full curse resistance
Perfectly equal, set to set. I see no reason for Divine to be "the tanky set" when we can give other pieces the same treatment on their monster bonuses. Plus, if you changed Valkyrie's status resistances to ice and shock without weakness, when combined with dragon scale you would get;
medium damage bonus vs monsters weak to piercing
one bar of each defense
half of all four strata-statuses and curse
If the Helm for Radiant Silvermail didn't come with a monster bonus I would expect there to be another status resist added to both pieces of the set, if it did come with the monster boost then adding another status would make it superior to Divine set and other specialist sets.
"If the Helm for Radiant Silvermail didn't come with a monster bonus I would expect there to be another status resist added to both pieces of the set"
That's what I'm going for, with freeze in particular.
As for Valk, I'm thinking valk should have no status weaknesses and shock + freeze resistance, and fallen should have poison + fire. Balance based off of dragon scale mail/specifics chosen for the sake of generating good mix n' matches.
That leaves chroma gear though, which has been suggested to get turned into gunner, MSI gear, you name it, so that's rather up in the air. Perhaps the slime bonus could just be made bigger? Maybe you could add a gremlin bonus to make it into a good "I don't have shadow weapons" piece of armor? Well actualyl no, that would make it into an arcane wannabee (which actually has a good bit of defense and isn't so bad in terms of layout, it just deserves medium bonuses). Pitching stuff.
Specialist sets need some reworking. A good template for all Specialist sets that give Very high family bonuses is the Valkyrie set.
A good sized family bonus
Appropriate defenses
2 status resists
1 status penalty
Chroma lines have one status resist (except for the 3 star set)
Dragons scale gives 2 resists and no penalty
Silvermail does the same but is missing a helm
Fallen, Deadshot, and Divine are all oddballs, but they are OK.
Fallen has a similar template to Valkyrie, Deadshot is very niche but perfect for it, and Divine is the status tank.
Not really super needed (original thought), as the helmet is more needed. Once we have a full set we can talk about tweaking it.
Freeze on shadow and piercing gear already exists in mass. Skolver, Snarbolax, Ice Queen, Dread Skelly, all Kat sets, gunner gears... You name it. All that silvermail really needs is a matching helm with matching damage bonuses and it fills the piercing/shadow niche we really need.
However now that I mention niches I see why you want this armor, as it would be perfect for Heart of Ice. However, that mission itself isn't too bad if you take shadow resistance and dodge wolvers like there's no tomorrow. The fact that there's no real "perfect" set for that mission just adds onto the idea that it's the "hardest danger mission". Dragon Scale makes compound 42 a breeze, but without dragon scale you will suffer from the statuses thrown at you.
Also Valkyrie is fine as is. It's not exactly a powerhouse, but it does its job. If there were a way to reduce damage from a certain monster family (like an inverse damage bonus vs thing) it could use one against fiends. Valkyrie is the fiend killer set.
I'll talk from experience from the whole radiant silvermail + divine veil set and it works as part of my PvE universal set. With all slots unlocked I never have to touch an arsenal station in the clockworks. Having +2 versus both shadow monsters is a plus.
It's well and perfect on it's own. It has Piercing and Shad defense. It is a specialist armor that doesn't need anymore change.
Leave the armor aloooone.
