I think it's time we bring up Fang of Vog again.

Let's compare Fang of Vog with Acheron:

Pros for Fang of Vog:
1. 360 charge attack
2. Chance of lighting enemies on fire even with normal swings.

Cons for Fang of Vog:
1. 50% chance of lighting self with strong fire every charge attack.
2. Ridiculously slow swing for a 3-hit sword.
3. Lower base power than brandishes.
4. Requires 40 tokens from the final boss to obtain.

Pros for Acheron:
1. Ridiculously high base power for a 3-hit sword.
2. Swings faster.
3. Long ranged charged attack (with 180 range at close proximity).
4. No self-inflicting status.
5. Easily obtainable.

Cons for Acheron:
none

Proposed Buff:
1. Increase base power and attack speed to same level as Acheron.
2. Lower self-inflicted burn status to moderate. (so it is possible to gain immunity from it)

Ideally also debuff Archeron:
5% chance of self-inflicted moderate curse on every swing.

Meh, even with the chance of curse Acheron will still and forever be OP. In the past, I proposed the idea of giving specialized weapons less damage against neutral enemies than their normal counter parts, giving players the incentives to actually try out normal damage weapons.

As for FoV, I think the main problem with the sword, much like the other FSC rewards (except for CoA), they are incredibly situational. I think instead of making FoV more like a normal sword, it should become more specialized in its role, ie. giving FoV a stronger charge attack, allowing the sword to offset its bad normal attack, a larger radius would be a good place to start.

A bit more power or speed would be nice. I can see how that was added to keep it balanced considering it used to be one of the few elemental swords, and it is one of the few with status on every swing (flourish variants). Now however, after the buffs of several swords and the addition and buffs of brandishes it has lost it's place as one of the best elemental swords.

You shouldn't be comparing Acheron with Fang of Vog, you should be comparing it with a Combuster since they both share the ability to set things on fire and deal the same type of damage.

Combuster's normal hits have more damage and are faster than the ones of the FoV, but FoV has a decent chance to set things on fire and I think that kind of balances it out, however, FoV being much slower on speed than a combuster makes it more dangerous to use and maybe that's too high a penalty for a chance of fire, maybe the balance is slightly turned on Combuster's favor here.

The part where I think things are really broken is on the charge, both Combuster and FoV have an almost equally powerful charge attack that has a good chance of setting things on fire, but Combuster has no drawbacks at all while FoV can set you on fire, Tere is also the fact that you can charge a group of monsters from a safer distance with a Combuster while when using a FoV you have to literally jump in the middle of the enemy mob, not only risking to set yourself on fire but also probably getting smacked by one of the monsters you're trying to attack.

Combuster is better in almost every aspect than a Fang of Vog, being safer to use and arguably more damaging there's no real reason to use it over a combuster other than personal prefference.

But now let's take a look at the possible solutions, Making the self inflicting fire moderate would turn everyone with a FoV into a charge spammer much like it is with Brandishes and that is a big huge NO, we don't need to turn another sword into a no-skill spam-to-win tool.

The charge is very powerful, it has a big drawback with the strong fire and it pretty much restricts your armor choices to Vog Cub Unless you're Uber rich and can afford Double max fire UV's on your equipment, but it's still very powerful, Making it more powerful than it already is would be going too far down the instakill road that we don't need any more of in this game. What I think would make the best way to fix FoV would probably be upgrading the normal attacks to combuster's speed and damage levels while keeping the fire chance, that way Combuster is inferior to the FoV in it's normal attacks but still superior when it comes to the charge attack.

Making the self inflicting fire moderate wouldn't be bad, you would still have to have a good fire resist to be immune. This would make many Attack boosting sets not as compatible. (unless you are rich and besides most rich players spend their CR on shock resistance)

It is still very risky to take a FOV charge up to a large enemy, doing so requires setup of some sort (stun, freeze, shock, dodging, timing). Still a risky move to pull and most often you sacrifice the safety of a Brandish charge plus the damage you can get by using sets that don't get penalized for being matched with a self-infliction weapon for a weapon made for single target elimination.

Boss items need to be superior to items that are obtained regularly. DA/GF is better than their Troika counterparts, BTB has as much power as a Flourish and a much easier to use charge, VT is the best Haze bomb, DBB is OP, etc.

Tagging mobs with fire isn't

Tagging mobs with fire isn't really worth giving up speed and damage for, it's similar to the classic Blitz vs. Plague vs. Pepperbox argument.
Setting mobs on fire with ranged attacks is pretty effective, mostly because you can hit many at the same time or cycle though them; setting them on fire one at a time is less efficient or not even practical. Are you supposed to keep whacking away at a burning mob, or run off and try to tag another?

As for buffing damage and/or speed, I would go for damage just for the fact that it's the only other slow 3 hit sword next to the Hammer. It feels clumsy at first, but if you use your Hammer a lot you can get a feel for the Fang also.
