What if promotional boxes that contained armor and or weapons that are re-skins had a chance at also dropping a recipe for said item?

If I recall correctly the Splash Prize box had around a 25% chance to drop one of three re-skinned weapons. What if the box also had a X% chance to drop a recipe for one of those weapons instead?

The recipes would be the high value item that whales go after, as time goes on the recipe price would increase because supply vs demand.
On the other hand, after the promotional box is over the value of the re-skinned weapons would decrease, becoming more and more affordable.

Note: This probably shouldn't be retroactive, and can't apply to costumes because they don't have stats.

These recipes would be kind of like buying the patent on teleportation- the minute one fell into your hands, you'd rule an industry which would inevitably lead to you ruling several industries. If you want one after the box, you have to go to someone with the recipe. If merchants want them to sell, they have to know someone with the recipe. This is a monopoly not only in terms of just economy, but also popularity and therefore opinion.

I'm not so sure if I like the idea of a handful of players dominating an entire market, especially since the players that would be able to afford this already compete for (and win) dominance in markets and know exactly how to leverage this to their advantage.

If one recipe gets unboxed

If one recipe gets unboxed there would be a monopoly, obviously.
If only a handful of recipes get unboxed there could be an oligopoly, but that's only if everyone cooperated.

I fail to see how a handful of players dominating an entire crafting market is much different than a handful of players dominating the unboxing market.
However, if there was the ability to continually increase the supply of a re-skin there's a chance it would work in favor of the consumers.
Of course, after people stop making re-skins the value would sky-rocket again, but that's no different than the current system. Is it?

If there was collusion between 100% of the recipe-holders it would be a monopoly. It would already be an oligopoly between players holding different types of recipes. The players in question don't dominate the unboxing market, they dominate markets for other things like rarities, energy, costumes, materials, and accessories.

But these are really beyond the point- it takes time and effort to craft 5* gear and that alone would limit the supply greatly- the demand for these items is going to be in the hundreds over time.. imagine crafting twenty of these things. Fifty? A hundred? You're also only handing out ~10-20 recipes at 1% per recipe, less at lower rates. There are a good many accessories in game that are one of a kind. I would expect that someone to receive a literal monopoly, on something like one coloration of the node slime crusher.

Many thanks.

I suppose you're right in your assessment. Thanks for being so thorough, Fehzor.
