Speculative thread

Would there be any shotgun mechanic you can think of that would work? One idea is that it fires three shots at a time, causing huge recoil to you and the target. But, it would suck in spike-based arenas. Another is that each hit would give speed to you, but it would be overpowered. Very overpowered. Any other mechanics that could work?
EDIT:
I already mentioned the special effects like heavy recoil that launches you backwards and shots that give speed boosts to you. Not talking about average mechanics, more like recon shotgun mechanics in TF2.

I would think something more along the lines of Magnus mobility but with much shorter range.
2 shots, shorter range than Tortofist bullets with no penetration
A Charge with slightly more range and bullet penetration.
Basically the gun you want in a gunner set when you need something to deal with enemies that get in melee-ish range.

which launches with ist Charge a Barrage of Spikes. Paradoxically it is a sword though, but since you asked for the mechanic and not for a certain weapon type (guns), then this is your choice.

which is morely a gun fireing in an arch over a Brief time 15 bullets with ist Charge while being rooted in place. I added it because it is the gun that would come closest to a shotgun, though it obviously isnt.
