Sword or Bomb
Swords and Bombs give you the most rewards for your efforts. Guns are very situational, and even in the right situation they don't do very much damage. The only time you'll really really want a gun is when facing trees, gun puppies, and the final boss, and even then gun puppies and trees can be dealt with by using a sword or bomb (although that's a little harder). If you want to blend in with the crowd go swords. If you want to be different go with bombs.
Also note that with bombs everything revolves around getting UVs for CTR.

Buy a one or two star of
Buy a one or two star of everything that interests you. See how you like it. I have four guns, five swords and two bombs bound to me because I couldn't make up my mind. You have the cash to play around and two star gear is cheap.
I personally go with 2 Swords, 1 Gun, and 1 Bomb.
2 Swords handles most situations, 1 Gun handles a bit of others, and 1 Bomb a bit of others as well.
