i thought that once i maxed out a few items i would be able to concentrate the heat on just a few. but i barely notice a difference...\
should i just get them to 5* or leave them at 4 * to get the rest up? i see very little difference.
less gear = more heat?

Also, higher * items level slower then lower * items. So, at the end of a good run, a 1* item might gain several levels whereas a 5* item might gain half a level or less.
There is a very noticeable difference when you're upgrading less, however 4/5* equipment still gets a bit sluggish if you're leveling up other equipment at the same time.
Best to just upgrade one at a time unless it's a lower * item.
