Non-bumping shield

Let's call it Claw Buckler.

Has a some normal defense, and gives no bonuses. Goes to 5*.

The gimmick is that it doesn't bump enemies. Instead, it does a small amount of damage and stagger. It could be 1 damage for all I care, as long as it can be used to:

  • Interrupt greavers up in your face as a pure bomber.
  • Run up to devilites and interrupt those.
  • Shield cancel cutter without sending lumbers sailing across the map.
  • Use yourself as a bait by standing on top of your bombs but shield without bumping enemies out of the radius.
  • Solve switch puzzles when I'm only carrying bombs without causing chaos.

Catalyzer 1-damage bullets can, so I don't see why not.

A shield with 1 damage would be useful for bombers, not only would it allow them to carve through blocks like a knight with a sword or guns but would also allow for quick mineral harvests.

I don't think this should be a branch at the end of a shield line but rather a line all to itself so that lower rank players can get used to using it and not be surprised with the mechanic change.

I don't think it should have a flinch chance since it could lock down enemies... at least it should have as much flinch chance as Catalyzer regular bullets... that way the tankier enemies can counter your shield but you can counter the devilites and greavers.

Specs?
I'm leaning towards Normal and Shadow damage resist with Stun and Curse status resists. This is to help it out with fiends and undead which both usually deal stun.

Ive thought about this before

Ive thought about this before so +1 haha. they could make shields with no shield bumb, less shield bump and even increased shield bump ( gotta feed those trolls)

Certainly seems like a nice idea for a bomber-friendly shield, could even have some utility for gunners who are fond of the autogun lines - gunners like myself P:

I'm so accustomed to bumping that I'd find it difficult to adjust to, however. Either way, new mechanics in general for items would certainly be welcomed.

I would agree that the flinch effect should definitely only affect the fragile enemies like Greavers, however.

Yeah absolutely, I'm not talking about any more flinching power than Proto Gun. That basically restricts the flinching to greavers, devilites and scuttle bots.
