On armor, status resistance UVs can be very powerful. They can nullify weaknesses on weak armor such as Chaos, or push strong armor past crucial immunity thresholds.
But damage UVs on armor seem to have only a small effect. My advice would be to sell the item (if you can get a good price --- I don't know the market) or to throw away that UV when you upgrade it, so that you have a chance at a status UV.
The preceding remarks apply to PvE. Possibly in PvP a Skolver with pierce+4 lets you withstand one more stroke from a piercing sword. Other players can comment on that.
