can you all help with armor question? 0 answers, 2 bumps so far...

so i have a vog cub coat and training up an ash tail cap, already have the recipe for vog cub cap. i've gotten pretty good at dodging and predicting movement, especially solo, so i'm using a sinister scary shield for those pesky graveyards.
now anyways, before the recent times, everything was dealing normal or elemental damage. now if i forget my mouse and just play using my laptop's track pad, alpha wolvers almost own the **** out of me, especially if i'm off that day. so now that piercing damage can actual pose a threat (to me), and will likely become more prevalent boss releases and stuff, i need some piercing defense.
now before anyone says anything, i have my avenger and da recipe, my vog set, and will be getting an omega shield for fsc. this is for all OTHER situations. i like to be balanced in regular gates, so...
would it be better to make another ash tail cap and turn it into a skolver to get the piercing defense or go with a dragon scale armor/deadshot chapeau combo? i occasionally swap out an alchemer for either my gran faust or my avenger, so the bonus, while rare, could be used at times. but i really like the curse resist using the faust line. plus combo gives piercing, normal, elemental, and shadow defense. seems well rounded, just looking for other opinions
Well, you already have your FSC gear all set. And then you want to be balanced for all the other situations... Going skolver + vog is a great alternative. Doesn't give you any shadow, but should be ok. I frequently go to undead and fiend strata without any shadow defense and do fine. The weapon bonuses from the armor can make up for it. You mention though that the bonuses would only be useful occasionally? What weapons do you usually carry?
Dragon Scale Mail + Deadshot Chapeau sounds like a sweet combo, covers the bases and gives you an undead bonus. My only nit-pick is that you won't have shock or freeze resistance. With the recent shock nerf, maybe it wouldn't be bad though. You can always pick up some shock or freeze trinkets or UVs too.
It is nice to have options, that way you can mix and match your gear based on where you are going.
