Location or direction indicator for offscreen foes

I feel like the most frustrating weak point left in the basic gameplay is the inability to see enemies to the south that are actively dealing damage to you. I would like to suggest something at the edge of the screen like an arrow that either follows the movement of baddies that are in range to deal damage to you, or shows the direction off screen from which you were dealt damage. This is especially pressing in locations where you need to time a southward run over spikes into ??? while dodging/blocking shots from gunpuppies offscreen.

I've never had this

I've never had this problem.

However, a camera you can zoom in/out with wouldn't be that hard to make.
They already have something similar for Vanaduke and the Tutorial, where the camera zooms in and out.

I have a very short (at the minimum end) screen resolution, I can only see 4 blocks South.

I *definitely* have this

I *definitely* have this problem, running at 1280*800 resolution. As a result, whenever I fight in a u-turn area vs enemies with ranged attacks, the "upper" half is easy, while the "lower" half is very dangerous. Same enemies, weapons, and terrain- but the camera angle changes the nature of the fight.

Resolution vs Ratio

Screen resolution has no effect on vertical visibility. Everyone can see the same amount of space above and below their character. However, horizontal clearance is entirely based on your screen ratio.

+1, I would really like some way of seeing further below.
Rotating the camera would work, but I think it would destroy some "3D illusions" of the game, so it's probably not an option.

Man, perspectives.

Hmm, I think it'd be a pretty great addition to have an option, perhaps a hotkey, that allows the camera to zoom out -
creating that birds-eye view from the introductory level (as Shoebox mentioned.)

That was a nice function that I'd love to see utilized more, or at least show up occasionally in creative fashions.

Overall, I agree that this is a flawed element of the game. In a PvP Brawl with the spikes map, I was able to stay at the bottom/front of the map/section closest to the screen/however you want to put it;
that part of the stage, and hurl vials at everyone while being in a very large blindspot.

No one came for me either, so I suspect that they either did not realize I was even down there, or simply did not bother to.
For the latter, they may not have wanted to. Getting past 'southern' (lol) spikes does presents some odd difficulty, due to the camera angle.
