Get a UV to increase or expand?

I finished up my first five star standard set (Vog Helm Clean, Vog Chest High Sleep, Barbarous Shield, Leviathan). My question is that I am starting to roll two star items for UV's on items I do not have and just got a High Piercing Owlite Shield. Would it be better to sell it and purchase one that stacks with my resists, or build up to help others.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I mean something that complements what my shield/armor already provides. ie piercing on the shield stacking with something like Skolver to increase your piercing resist while providing the Fire/Electric resist that is standard on the shield.

You're misunderstanding the
You're misunderstanding the effect shields have on your defense.
Shields provide ZERO benefit to your defense unless they're currently deployed. All of their benefits go directly to the shield itself, as opposed to your actual defense.
Meaning, a shield with high elemental and piercing resists will only help your shield survive piercing and elemental attacks while it's out, not when it's not deployed.

Seems like you've already got it, but it's best to think of your shield as a seperate person taking the hit for you, with their own health and resistances, rather than a peice of gear that bestows stats upon you :)
Status effect resistances make the shield more resistant to attack that inflict those status effects.
Well, hmm. The Barbarous Thorn Shield is a decent piercing shield. The UV you crafted isn't bad either. If I was in the same situation though I'd just sell the Piercing Shield then wait till I luck/buy a nice Normal, Elemental or Shadow UV Owite to upgrade.
Not sure what you mean by "stacks with your resists"? The shield only provides defense when it is up, whereas the armor provides your passive defense.
