I have to say this game is among most buggy software I have ever encountered, joined it while Steam sales were on and I regret doing so. Spiral knights reminds me of some other titles, which keeps me interested. Plus I met some OK people, so it gets more interesting to log in.

Anyway, I'm willing to let go some issues like the uber lag on some levels which has killed me a few dozen times in these few weeks (my broadband connection usually works OK, I'm Europe based); the fact that some of the incoming strikes hit me even though I at the time I'm well outside of the enemy's striking distance (I'm assuming this relates to lag); the fact there are hits that get displayed even though they haven't actually happened; enemies which from time to time get 3-5 times tougher from what you would expect on current depth (for instance, an Ironclaw Thwacker in a Tier 1 danger room which can easily stand 20 level 10 Vile striker hits, with two low sword damage bonuses; by no means am I an experienced player, but 90% of the time I am able to clear a Tier 1 danger room single-handedly without too much effort, it's just that randomly it gets exponentially more difficult).

What I'm NOT willing to let go is my Miracle Cloak health bonus. This is a 4 star currently level 7 item, which gives me one (1) additional health bar instead of 4, according to wiki page here http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Miracle_Cloak the amount which should be delivered at levels past level 5.

Also, my Dusker cap, which is a star 3 item currently at level 6 which should be giving me 3 extra health bars gives me one, yes you read that correctly ONE.

To further illustrate my point -> http://img847.imageshack.us/img847/1478/bug1a.jpg

Back at the arcade -> http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/6493/arcadet.jpg

Had I purchased any energy, I would feel like a moron right now.

It depends on what tier you

It depends on what tier you are playing and what heat level your equipment is at.

Hahaha. Never played Fallout,

Hahaha. Never played Fallout, huh? Or Minecraft? Or tried using Windows?
Spiral Knights' bugs are tame, and chances are very high that the lag is caused by problems on your end, yes, despite how much you feel you know better.

So, as equinox points out, what you're seeing is a feature, not a bug.
A thousand crowns says mkey82 doesn't apologize for his mistake. Any takers?

Also, for the lag, try

Also, for the lag, try playing the game in the regular cilent as opossed to steam. I could be wrong, but I've been told multiple times that steam hogs bandwith and could slow you down. If all else fails, lower your graphics, it dosent make it look that different.

@equinox I did spend a bit of time on the wiki but I didn't see that part about equipment reduction. I don't see the point of it (better gear should be better gear), but obviously it is a game "feature". Thanks for the information.

@caseyweederm I assume when you talk about Fallout you are talking about Fallout 3 and later carbon copies of the game. No, I haven't played those. Haven't played Minecraft either. Don't know which windows versions you have used, but Windows XP, Vista (with some resource usage considerations) and 7 have been practically rock solid. So that's only, what 10 years of stable performance? Great example, I must say.

I apologize for not knowing about equipment reduction, you owe me a thousand crowns. My in-game name is "Mkeyy", you can send the money there.

@DrLequack, what seemed to fix the lag for me was playing the game in the "normal" client (it really should be the same as Steam client) but in widowed mode. This made one run in the ammunition factory playable, but that was just a stroke of luck as even later on the lag spikes would just happen randomly.

My PC is quite capable of running the game (Q400 2,66GHz; 4870 512 MB; 4 GB DDR2 RAM) so I really don't think it's about the specs.

Hee hee hee hee hee,

Hee hee hee hee hee, 'windows', 'rock solid'. Bahahaa. Oh you poor sucker.

Wait, you expect me to pay out to you? It's... kinda obvious that you would be exempt from that sort of thing. You know, conflict of interests and all that. Had anybody spoken up before you apologized, I would have been happy to pay out. You can argue my decision or accuse me of whatever you like, I don't think you'll get much support.
For the record, your mistake wasn't ignorance, it was wielding anger before fully understanding the problem, and placing blame where it didn't belong. Oh, and being arrogant with your wallet. You know, the "boy I'm glad I never actually PAID for this crap" thing.
If you apologize for THOSE things, well heck, I'll give you a thousand crowns.

Hehehe. Windows.

I will not enter into a windows discussion with you, a person such as yourself can obviously hold their ground. This can be easily deducted from imaginative and inspired usage of term "hee" as you have displayed above. Suffice to say, I feel good about making one silly internet psychiatrist wrong, I'll just place another mark on my wall... there it goes.

Anyway, this game is both silly and buggy, I would never pay for consumable crap nor would I fall for subscription services some other games offer, hopefully this can put your mind at ease. As many other "free to play" games this game also has been tweaked to get people to shell out money and I really don't see the need to apologize for saying that I don't want to give them any of my dosh. You know, earning is not easy so I make the spending part just as hard, it's matter of principle.

I don't see the point of it (better gear should be better gear), but obviously it is a game "feature".

It was implemented as a way to prevent players from completely blasting through levels with heat mules and various other reasons. Same as damage scaling. If you haven't played very long it may not make sense to you, but to someone like me I can see its practicality. Plus it helps keep things somewhat fresh when playing with friends who are new to the game.

Hand waved by storyline. You know that core you're searching for? The one emanating massive amounts of power?

Higher star gear gets more power the closer you are to the core.

On a much more serious note.

The reason your miracle cloak does what it does, is because of the tier you are in. I wondered the same thing with my Ash Tail. Here's a much more simpler way to put it.

Tier 1- 0*-1* Equipment works normally. Anything else above 1* is nerfed.
Tier 2- 2*-3* Equipment works normally. Anything else above 3* is nerfed.
Tier 3- 4*-5* Equipment works normally. Nothing is nerfed.

The reason you got a +1 health bonus is because you were in Tier 2 with 4* armor and a 3* helmet. Maybe you should click that button that says Tier 2. Then your 4* cloak will work up to +3. You can only get +4 if you were in Tier 3 and the Miracle Cloak was at Heat Level +5. It's simple. All you need to do is read the wiki and learn some patience before having your anger speak for you.

I've linked to the equipment

I've linked to the equipment reduction section via the first instance of the "Health Bonus" bit in the equipment infobox to try to make learning about it a bit more accessible.

So, if the "story" justifies

So, if the "story" justifies a ridiculous feature, the feature itself becomes valid? I think not.

Thanks for all other replies, I do understand this predicament, but still I find it silly that better equipment gives possibly less in some circumstances then lower tier gear. The problem as I see it comes from the leveling up system, as usually with advanced gear against inadequate enemy you gain close to nothing. The reward should scale, not gear effectiveness.
