My game appears to be broken permenantly

This is both irritating and incredibly dissapointing.
I attempted to create a gate on the most recent one to become playable (Onyx Serpant) but I'm stuck at 97% when loading the clockworks, and my game has frozen. Attempting to reboot the game only causes it to auto-connect to clockworks which freezes it again, so i'm unable to play the game at all.
It isn't a loading problem as I can join ANY other level just fine, lower depths, training hall, and areas throughout Haven.

This isn't the first time it's happen, but the last time restarting booted me straight into the first level after clockworks instead, which loaded fine.

I've reinstalled numerous times, verified game cache on Steam, and no avail. I can't play one of my favourite games because of this loading bug, and I have no idea what to do. Help?

Okay, going "afk" while loading somewhat fixes it, but I have to restart my game to actually log in again.

I'm going to try reinstalling again.

No avail. Once I go AFK

No avail. Once I go AFK again, i'm going to try to see if it's just Onyx Serpant, or all Clockworks levels

Sorry, dude. I don't know how to fix this.

I've seen something similar a couple of times on different gates and floors. What worked for me was hitting F2 and including the words 'freeze' or 'frozen', and each time I immediately bumped to the next floor. It's possible that there's some kind of failsafe, something that catches the word 'frozen' that gives you a kickstart.
It's possible that it was coincidence each time, or that I misread it, or that opening the bug report dialog delays the loading screen. but it's the best I have to offer.

Unfortunately because my game

Unfortunately because my game freezes, I can't press F2 and try that.

Also, Sapphire Pawn also breaks my game, so I think i'm stuck to Tier 2 for now. At least until and update or something comes around.

Could it be anything to do with the fact I recently changed to high graphics settings? I don't see why that'd only affect this one level, though.

There seems to be a sporadic

There seems to be a sporadic issue around starting a new T1 party, you're not totally alone on this one.

The change in graphics settings should not result in this behavior.

If you try starting a T1 gate again and the game locks up could you please post your projectx.log before you try to start the game again? That may highlight the exact stumbling block.

Yeah, 7's grey overlay and

Yeah, 7's grey overlay and everything. The only time it finally unfreezes is when it recognises my connection isn't active (AFK, I think, but this might be the game triggering connection issue disconnects) and I get returned to the main screen. But to log in, I have to click log in, restart the game, and then log in again.

I've gone through and wiped my Spiral Knights files from Steam - both in the Steam client and from my knowledge of the files Steam doesn't delete itself - and i'm going to try again. I really, really hope my knight isn't stored on my system, but I don't think so - and i'm going to try installing from scratch this time. If I didn't suck so bad at Tier 2, I wouldn't mind this as much.

On an unrelated note, I just noticed my download speed is at nearly double what it usually is. That's interesting.

@d0gr0ck,
If the game freezes again after I finish installing, i'll do this. Where exactly is the file i'm looking for?

Okay, no, removing the files

Okay, no, removing the files in steamapps/common and letting the game patch the files back in itself results in a fully-working game. I can't post the projectx.log file, but at least I know a temporary fix should others report this issue.

This also means whatever's causing the issue is in the steamapps/common/spiral knights folder.

That's exactly what I was

That's exactly what I was wondering. There seems to be various spots where the Steam version of the game is missing resources that cause freezes on loading or outright game crashes.

The fix used usually works as the shotgun approach with the side effect that Steam might not have acquired another file instead. Although the odds of this appear to be exceedingly low.

Have fun enjoying the game properly again!

That you can discount, it

That you can discount, it appears for all Win 7 with no ill effects. I see it all the time, even in my own computer's logs.

The major line I usually watch out for in the log is the java.io.FileNotFoundException, which indicates missing files in the installation.
