The only time this gets tricky is if you're inviting a person who does not have access to that tier on that gate yet. If they do have the equipment, they can join you by paying 200 crowns.

Eh
The only times you can't invite someone in the middle of a run is at boss and treasure levels.
Otherwise you can even invite a noob to depth 28 if you want.
