Does the game go blank when
Does the game go blank when you switch to fullscreen? If so then you can use Section Five from here to navigate to the registry settings for the game and toggle fullscreen to true.
If your running Steam, disable the steam overlay. You'll also want to disable any program that has On-Screen Display capability (like Rivatuner or Afterburner) since they hook into the drivers in order to function. If it still doesn't work you can try reinstalling/updating the video drivers. if your using an intel graphics chip.... thats just a whole nother mess of compatibility issues.
Last I checked, FRAPs can't record specific windows, so I'm assuming your recording your whole desktop? most obvious sanity checks are reducing the FPS you record at, setting the thread's affinity to a lightly used core, and making sure it works with another Java/OGL game (Minecraft is common). Both issues could have the same underlying problem, but your better off asking the FRAPS community forums to help you chase down why is FRAPS crashing.
