So, I was playing Spiral KNights for a while on my Dad's PC, because mine was broken, but since it was fixed a couple of days ago, I decied to install. However, I recieved the "Could not initialise Graphical display" error from Java. I have the latest version of Java, and I meet the Sys Reqs because I played for a little while on ym old laptop, which has a worse graphics card then this one (both are integral >.> need to get a proper one) so I don't see what the problem is. All my drivers are updated. Here's my system specs:

OS: Windows 7 32bit
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ ~2.6gh
Video Card: ATI Radeon 2100 (bad I know) 128MB Memory
RAM: 4GB DDR2 (I think ... not sure about the DDR)

I don't see what the problem could be ...

At any point has the game run on this machine? Just wanna make sure I'm understanding what your saying.

What version Java do you have installed, and did you update just the Video drivers or for the whole chipset on the mobo?

No, the game has not run on

No, the game has not run on this system, but it has on lower-spec systems.

I have Java version 6 Update 26 installed. I can't find the chipset drivrs on AMD's website but windows says everything is up-to-date (don't believe them).

You can't use video drivers

You can't use video drivers obtained through windows update since they strip out OpenGL support from it.

(think this is the right link)
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/mobile/11-7_mobility_vista_win7_32-64_ccc.exe
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-32.aspx

The graphics chip supports the right level of OpenGL, so it should work.

run dxdiag.exe and go to the

run dxdiag.exe and go to the Display tab to find out what the system is seeing.

Are you absolutely sure its an ATI card... and if you have a laptop with the switchable graphics modes, did you remember to switch to the ATI before starting?

I'm not on a laptop. Computer

I'm not on a laptop.

Computer sees:

Device
Name: ATI Radeon 2100 (Microsoft Corporation WDDM)
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip Type: N/A
DAC Type: Internal DAC (400 MHz)
Approx. Total Memory: 1535MB
Current Display Mode: 1366 x 768 (32bit) (60Hz)
Monitor: Generic PnP monitor.

Drivers
Main Driver: atiumdag.dll, atiumdva.dll, atimmxx (not wure what this means)
Version: 8.56.1.16
Date: 14/07/2009 02:14:55
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
DDI Version: 9Ex
Driver Model: WDDM 1.0

All three Diect X features ARE enabled.

It seems it's not recognising the drivers I manually installed ... and it sees them as Microsoft ones ... should I disable automatic updates while I install them?

It never installed them due

It never installed them due to the detection failure. I think I might had linked you to the wrong drivers.

Heres what you do, hit the Save All Information and save it as a txt file on your desktop. Open that file and hit ctrl+a , ctrl+c to select all and Copy.

Go to pastebin.com, and paste the text into the box. Hit submit (you may have to fill out a captcha), and the resulting page should have all the information you pasted. Copy the address and post it back here. Once I get the device IDs I can figure out which ccc package it wants.

Ok, looks like it might be

Ok, looks like it might be part of the desktop Catalyst Software Suite.

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-32.aspx

Otherwise it'll be a legacy device:

This one is kind of an odd

This one is kind of an odd ball ATI card.... lots of posts asking how to update the drivers, but the answers are all over the place. As for basic drivers, its not a bad thing in itself... The issue is not being able to replace them.

If your gonna get a new video card, what kind of budget are you looking at?

UPDATE: So, I emaled ATI and

UPDATE:

So, I emaled ATI and it turns out the drivers were in fact not on their website. I got linked to Gigabyte (the people who made my mobo) where I downloaded the drivers for the chipset. I then tried to install the drivers from there ... and it still didn't work. Windows seems to be refusing to allow me to use the drivers not on their WMMD and will not let me install the drivers. Can someone help me do this please? I have the drivers now ... it's just getting them on the PC that's the hard bit ...

Also, I still think I need a new video card, considering internal graphics aren't the best ... budget would be around £50 (UK lol).

For that price range probably

For that price range probably a Radeon 6570 or a GT440. Having a hard time finding direct comparisons between those 2 cards though.
