I've never played this game. I have 2 friends that also have this error. I'm wondering if Sega even realizes just how many people are running into this problem.

Tried Facebook, tried Steam Authentication, tried making a separate account.

I mean, I don't even know if this game is worth the hour or so I've spent trying to get it to play. I am thinking not. Given the Google searches and the lack of official information on how to fix this, I'm not sure there *IS* a solution. Btw, I designed this post to be the one that will show at the top of all Google searches for this, so it might help to actually have a solution here.

Re-launch the game again, but don't only use the steam login option. Then post the projectx.log file again.

When you open the game

When you open the game through the browser it should open a java console (or you can open it manually through Tools in Firefox). It should log the entire process, and give a lot more detail then the normal logging class, I'm expecting to see something along the lines of certificate or key failure.

hmmm do you know if your behind a proxy server by any chance? Or a router that does advanced filtering? Every indication so far shows its not getting a clean response from the server, but isn't being unilaterally blocked.

Weird configurations was why

Weird configurations was why I asked about OpenDNS in a previous post about this. I do use OpenDNS, but if this is going straight to an IP, I'm not sure why it would be blocked.

I am using "Tomato" which is a custom hack for my router. I'm on a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem. I think my friends who have run into this problem might have a similar setup, but I'm not sure. Maybe it is an issue with my ISP, too?

Do I need to have a port open locally? I'd be willing to run Wireshark and monitor it even more closely if you know what IP I need to watch?

It doesn't need any inbound ports open. And if you look at the projectx.log, the first IP you connect to is the authentication server, I think there maybe 2 addresses. I would just do an open capture then filter the results.

Was there anything else in that packet chain? If its happening on both Steam and by UN/PW, which are separate accounts, it likely something in the transmission. But thats debugging way beyond what I can read.
