Just check out on the picture. I'm wearing a Barbarous Thorn Shield but I've got no Piercing defence at all..

500'000 Crowns ... May I venture a guess? You bought billions of Crystal Energy, made everything to ***** asap and have NO idea about the game... However, everyone starts as a nothing.
To be nice I'm gonna explain it: The armor gives you for example Shadow, Elementary and Normal Defense. So you get less damage by these types. Shadow deals the most cause it's pretty low. If you get directly piercing damage you loose much HP.
Your shield has normal and piercing resistance: This means it will take for example 10 hits to break by normal and piercing but only 5 against elementary or shadow.
This also works like this with resists: If your shield has Poison resistance you can longer stand on thorns for ex.

To be honest, I played this game a loooong time, and I had never noticed. Thats probably because its the first time I use a shield else than Grey Owlite lol. Thanks.
And for the 500k, they all went wasted trying to roll a good UV on a sealed sword, unfortunately..:x
Shields do not give defense to your character. The stats on the shield apply to the shield when its blocking(its health and what its good at defending)
