I think the name of the game
I think the name of the game is "Spiral" because of the levels to the core look like spirals, if you see the game background while in a gate you can see that the closest levels look like spirals from the planet surface to the core.
I think the alpha team was all dizzy when they reached the core and that's why they become dragon food or something.
Unless they found Robo-heaven (see transformers 2 for reference) down there and sealed it from other people to hog it all for themselves.
Huh....I was expecting a Gurren Laggen joke.
