Hey all. I'd like to play this game on my Mac without having to use Steam. Is this possible? If so, how do I do it, and do I keep the same characters/gear in the process?

I'm running OSX 10.6.8, so
I'm running OSX 10.6.8, so it's the most recent version without moving to Lion.
The problem I'm having, is that the game will (seemingly at random) freeze up while I'm playing, and force quit. This happens while I'm in the clockworks. If I'm in Haven, sometimes everything will stop functioning (other players stop moving, and I can't register anything in chat), but I'll be able to walk around without interacting with the game. This happens at least a few times during each play session.
I've already tried re-installing the game, but that didn't help. I thought running the game outside of Steam might fix this, but not if I can't port my character over. ;)

It sounds like you're getting
It sounds like you're getting de-synched from the server. This is usually an issue with your network. After fiddling around with everything on my end, I found that resetting my DSL modem every day prevented this from happening. I obviously don't know what kind of connection you have, but see if you can do something similar; unplug your DSL/cable modem (or whatever you have) and router if you have one for ~5 mins, then plug it back in. That usually resets whatever the problem is.
Note that I don't use the Steam client (but do use Macs), so this has nothing to do with Steam.
I'm sorry, it's not possible to move your Steam characters to the desktop or web client. :(
I'm assuming you're having problems with the Mac Steam client---we're trying to collect information about that. What specific problems have you been having? What is your OS version?
