Is it me or Crest of Almire and Aegis looks 90% the same? I love the design of the Blackened Crest but after I upgrade it to 5* it just feels.................like Aegis..........which is not as awesome as the Blackened Crest design.

I would love to hear opinion from other people.

90% of SK's armour, shields

90% of SK's armour, shields and helms are reskins, partially for the sake of convenience and partially to help maintain a unified design motif. I imagine the similarities between the Aegis and the Crest are intentional - they're both the top tier shield for, effectively, two contrasting knight orders (namely the Spiral Order and the Almirian Empire), wheras virtually every other shield in the game is...I'm looking for a better term than "non-denominational" but I think you get my drift. They're not tied to particular organisations the way that the Aegis and the Crest are.

Person above me clearly

Person above me clearly doesn't know what the two shields look like.

Blackened crest looks great, crest of almire needs to be reskinned to look like blackened crest and not aegis...

I know what the shields look like, guy. I happen to own a Blackened Crest, and perhaps more to the point, there's a wiki link at the top of the page. It is not hard to find out what these shields look like. Indeed, it's almost as easy as noticing how similar they are if you pay a little attention.

The base coat of arms on the Almire is the same as the Blackened Crest, enhanced with some details to differentiate it from the lower-tier version. The central crown motif is illuminated, they've added a background element to the glyph at the bottom, and extended the upper-right quadrant design, but it's otherwise the same goddamn decal. What features do you want carrying over exactly? The shape, which the Almire already follows and extends? The lava cracks, which would visually fight with the illuminated central crown? I'll accept that the outer border could maybe do with being a smidge darker, but otherwise it looks like a perfectly natural design evolution to me. Be specific; "not as awesome" doesn't mean anything. If the Almire needs an overhaul to "look like blackened crest", well, how?

My point about the Almire vs the Aegis is that the shared form factor is likely intentional as an indicator that they're both top-tier shields for the only two organised Knight orders in the game.

(I'm an illustrator; I do this sort of thing for a living, and I'll tell you what, there're few things more annoying than clients saying stuff like "I want it to look more betterer", and then you ask "better how exactly?" and they say, "you know, more...good, like, more...you know?")

Blackened crest looks

Blackened crest looks significantly better than the aegis, they shouldn't be using an aegis texture on another shield, it's just sillyness.

Making the 5* look worse is just... lol

My suggestion

I agree fully with Effrul, that they both have a faction they belong to, so it makes sense that they would look alike, and for the design, it shouldn't be based on the blackened crest because its supposed to be the shield for almire when it was good, thus making it more pure. However, it would be nice to have SOMETHING behind the shield part, mainly because the aegis has those swords, and the crest of almire has nothing, making a very plain back to the shield. Just feels like something should be in that specific part, so maybe kinda like the blackened crest where it has a fiery back to the shield, idk. But it would look nicer if it had something behind it.

@killaizsik - They haven't used the Aegis texture on another shield. They've used most of the Blackened texture on the Almire. Do you see? At this point, I'm just going to go ahead and assume that "reading comprehension" is just words to you.

@PhoenixRisin - I see what you mean; I do think the illuminated elements in the Almire go a ways towards mitigating that (the Aegis doesn't have any of that, after all), but yeah, a bit of extra detail - maybe a single extra sword or something - wouldn't go amiss.
