You can attempt to, but I'd advise against it unless you absolutely need the achievements or steam trades. One problem that may prevent you from converting successfully is the FBConnect requires it launch in a pop-up page to show the login. The Webkit browser used by the steam overlay doesn't seem to like this, and as far as I know, it still doesn't work properly.
If you can't successfully convert, you could simply keep them separate and use the Steam acct as a trade mule.
