Indepent Auto Target Settings for Each Weapon

Fast melee weapons with a small area of effect (e.g. cutter/flourish/snarble barb) can only reach their full potential with auto targeting enabled, since they will otherwise miss too often.

Weapons that have a large area of effect (e.g. avenger/faust/troika/pulsar) handle much better with auto targeting disabled, since careful aiming can allow you to hit multiple enemies at a time.

If a player is equipped with both type of weapons, there is currently no way for him to use both efficiently without extraordinary effort. Having to hold down the shift key to toggle auto targeting is cumbersome for extended fights. Yet the only other option is to spend several seconds going into the game menu to switch auto target on and off, which is clearly unfeasible in the heat of combat.

The best solution here is to allow players to set auto target independently for each of their weapons. Instead of having a single checkbox in the controls menu, have four in its place instead. (i.e. weapon 1 auto target, weapon 2 auto target, etc.)

Couldn't you just

Couldn't you just have the auto-target button TOGGLE instead of require it be held, then the game can remember the toggle setting per weapon?

........

I think this is asking OOO for a bit much. It's borderline on Pedantic, not meaning to insult you btw.

Toggle would be ok, but having to customise a setting for each thing you use? Thats asking them to pay attention to TINY detail. Not really needed.

Having to remember it would also be a bit much. They already remember it when you remove it in the settings, asking them to remember it for each weapon is a bit much. Just a 'toggle auto-lock on/off' button option would be fine.

You're acting like it's a human's memory. It's really not that hard to code.

It isn't?

I wouldn't know. I'm still in High-school, and have no experience whatsoever about coding and programming, save altering existing things based on instruction. Eg, interactive buddy action scripts ><

Not difficult to code, maybe, but I don't think the devs would like to take whatever little time it takes to do this. It's in the settings, which is supposed to be your 'locked' options. Keys to use and whatnot. This isn't like Loadouts where your gear is customised at the click of a button. Or 2 :D, but it's asking them to remember each setting for a weapon?

Admittedly, I can't see anything else wrong with this idea, other than it's looking too far in. Then we could ask for auto-fire for those who don't bother to charge, and customised keyboard movements that people might use for different gear. (Like a loadout, but for keys movements ad stuff. eg, switch from WASD for forward/backward/sideways, while using a sword to WASD for north/south/east/west while using a gun.)

Really, I think It'd be less pedantic if we just asked them to make the toggle Auto-lock key a TOGGLE key. It SAYS it is, but it doesn't. Then all you have to do is press shift.

Just change the controls. In

Just change the controls. In the mouse I have the left click for attacking and the right click for auto-targeting, in case I need to do that (normally when I charge my Leviathan). I shield with the left shift, move with WASD and switch weapons with the scroll wheel, E or the spacebar. No need for anything else.

A one-press toggle button

A one-press toggle button only improves the situation marginally if you are switching weapons every 2 seconds.

Auto target is currently default to on for new players, so having it default to on for all 4 weapons is not going to overburden anyone. In fact, I would argue that letting players see the separate settings would encourage better play, since it would prompt them to think more carefully about which weapons should have it on and which off.

I am not familiar with the SK coding base, but the coding time for this feature should be minimal. I will admit that it may not be a priority, as it will only appeal to power gamers who care about combat efficiency and enjoy skillful maneuvering. Whether or not OOO wants to appeal to such players is their decision to make however, and I am just bringing this particular issue to their attention.

Right click to auto target is far too unwieldy for me. I have left click attack and right click shield right now, since those are the two most used functions. It's a shame that SK does not recognize any of the other buttons on my mouse, as I would love to have vials and pills bound to my mouse too. As of right now, I turn auto target off and use space bar as my toggle, but it is still annoying nonetheless.
