They need nematocysts. The diagram halfway down the page shows the discharge type.
I had this idea for awhile, but Starlin's boss suggestion made me remember it.
For those of you who don't click the link, a discharge type nematocyst is like a harpoon on the cellular level. It is what jellyfish use to get their prey.
Im sorry but this game shouldnt get that complicated... Its better just to have it be them able to spike us from the ground and have lichens with spikes be able to shoot out spike from afar...
Now off topi i like zincknights idea for linchens where they can have poison or shock or fire and so on medium and large linchens!

(sorta offtopic) i believe lichens of different colors should be able to join XD and the colony status depend on the majority of the lichens status.
