Spiral Knight's Won't Start At All

Right, spiral knight's won't start. I normally play through steam but that's recently stopped working too. I can't use the online launcher, installing it from SK website doesn't work either... What happens is when i launch spiral knights from steam or from the version installed from the SK website the logon screen comes up for a split second and then closes again. The online launcher just doesn't work at all which is really weird. I've been able to play through steam for quite a while before this issue. All my friends can still play it as well. I've tried deleting every trace of SK, Java and steam too, but nothing seems to work. I've also tried disabling AVG and Windows Firewall. I know i can run this game because i have in the past. Specs are as follows :

AMD Phenom ii 3.4ghz quad core
4GB 1600mhz DDR3 RAM
ATI Radeon 5870 1GB GDDR5
500 GB hard drive, not even half used up right now...

If anyone can shed any light it would be highly appreciated :D

Look in the SK directory for

Look in the SK directory for an hs_errPID####.log file. Could be something as minor as an autoupdate in AVG or Windows that slipped in under your nose, or even changes in anti-malware

That's your graphics driver giving you grief. I'd try a graphics driver re-install and then install SK. If there was a driver update you installed around the time this issue started I'd roll it back.

Sorry that was a bit vague.

Sorry that was a bit vague. What i did was i uninstalled any trace of the graphics drivers, reinstalled 11.9. That didn't work, same thing happened. So i uninstalled the drivers again and then decided to try 11.6 or something like that, and that doesn't work either. So now i've just gone back to the latest drivers. I may as well? I can always change everything again if needs be. You got any more ideas? :)

Are you kidding me? Its been triple buffering thats been messing things up this whole time? I'm gonna start suggesting this more, and if it works I'm gonna lose all respect for ATI.

Just... wow. I know Triple buffering works no problem with every driver from 11.2 to 11.8 preview with an HD 6000 series card. At this point I'm wondering if the special Rage Performance Driverrelease would be the best drivers for SK too. Apparently the "version released prior to October 4 included very old OGL files" as per some of the news I've been reading.

They'd be fools not to do an optimization for Rage, but to have major over-arching improvement for OpenGL in that one patch....... I know most people will play it off as "see, AMD cares!", but had it been a game developer, they'd be crucified for taking so long.

I'll fire up a copy of the Rage drivers tonight to see if it's worthwhile. I strongly suspect yes, but I want to try them first on my computer before I give them the wiki blessing.

Edit:
The drivers are provided "as-is" from AMD. That means they do not officially support them same as a beta release. I don't want to put them on a recommended list without proper support on a recommended list just in case something goes wrong for someone. Hopefully they will keep the improvements in for the October Catalyst release.

I have tried them and it looks like there's less hiccup now when a wave of monsters spawn, so looks like texture loading may have gotten a nice tweak (figures if you've looked into Rage's megatextues). No change in framerate and I'm able to run with Triple Buffering, Catalyst A.I. and Supersampling going. No framerate changes to note.
